Training session with the American Planning Association and the Chaddick Institute for Metropolitan Development at DePaul University to discuss Planning and Zoning Commission meeting format and procedure, the history of planning, the roles and responsibilities of Commission members, and other topics. Bob Sullivan, FAICP and Carrie Davis, AICP began by reviewing the history of planning, including the comprehensive plan and the role of zoning. Davis then discussed the role of the zoning ordinance and zoning approvals (annexations, subdivision regulations, building and sign codes, etc.). Sullivan reviewed the role of the Commissioner and elected officials, as well as working with staff and developers. Davis expanded on the responsibilities of the Commissioner and the Chair. Davis also reviewed items that were not subject to PZC review and PZC hearing procedure. Sullivan discussed findings of fact.
