The Commission discussed fundraisers, who receives funds raised from the
event, whether funds are distributed to different organizations in the community,
and the need to have a clear definition and set guidelines.
Portner explained that in 2016 the Council approved the current definition of a
fundraiser as an event with the primary purpose of generating revenue to
support the organization's own mission. She said if an event met the definition it
would be ineligible to apply. She concluded by stating that an event is not
characterized as a fundraiser if the primary purpose is to present cultural or
entertainment experiences.
