CALL TO ORDER: Commissioner Lowe the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m. B. ROLL CALL: Present 7- Tony Chamberlain, Allison Longenbaugh, James Alan Lowe, Arun Mani, Becky Rudolph, Neelam Saboo, and Yugin Wang Absent 1- Lance Fuhrer Staff Present: Rachel Pruneda C. PUBLIC FORUM: Dr. Lili Burciaga, ALMAS, Founder and President read a statement at the meeting to address some concerns and ask for clarification between Sister Cities Commission and Sister Cities Foundation. Diane Torres-Hawkens, ALMAS, Secretary and Laura Navarros, ALMAS, Vice-President also introduced themselves and spoke under Public Forum. We come tonight with three goals: 1) to provide clarification on recent exchanges with the Sister Cities Foundation, 2) to inquire if the Sister Cities Commission coordinates with the Sister Cities Foundation, and 3) to request this Commission provide the public with a better understanding and outline regarding the powers, structures and operations of the Commission vs. the Foundation. Commissioner Lowe stated that Sister Cities supports the efforts of the Foundation but that the two are separate organizations. D. OLD BUSINESS: E. REPORTS: F. Approve the Sister Cities Commission meeting minutes of August 9, 2023 Approve the Sister Cities Commission meeting minutes of August 9, 2023 was moved by Saboo and seconded by Rudolph. Motion passed by voice vote. G. Approve the Treasurer’s Report through August, 2023. To date, Sister Cities total budget is $3,350, their expenditures have been $467 with a remaining balance of $2,252.00. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT - LANCE FUHRER Chairman Fuhrer was not present for this meeting. I. SISTER CITIES UPDATE / OTHER COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS/NEWS Commissioner Lowe discussed the possibility of engaging with Cork, Ireland as a possible future Sister City. More information to follow as he attempts to make some connections. Our Sister City, Cancun Mexico has reached out and is interested in some engagement with the Commission. Commissioners will look at various ways they can build their relationship with our newest Sister City. J. SISTER CITIES FOUNDATION UPDATE: SHAFEEK ABUBAKER Foundation Member, Shafeek Abubaker was not present, but Tina Cui who is a Foundation member discussed the lay-out of events on the upcoming Hispanic Festival and reported on the overall progress of the festival events and activities. K. NEW BUSINESS: L. ADJOURNMENT: Commission Lowe asked for a motion to adjourn the meet at 7:35 p.m. Motion was made by Commissioner Chamberlain and seconded by Wang.
