McCarthy Nashua, NH 03061-2019 President, Board of Aldermen (603) 589-3030 Date: March 9, 2012 To: Board of Aldermen Dear Colleagues: In an effort to better understand the actions this week regarding rail in NH, I sent the following invitation to Councilor Wheeler. I have as yet had no reply. From: McCarthy, Brian Sent: Thursday, March 08, 2012 1:11 PM To: dwheeler@nh.gov Subject: Invitation to speak to the Board of Aldermen Councilor Wheeler – I think I speak for my colleagues on the Board of Aldermen in expressing our extreme disappointment in your vote against the rail study, deciding against a concept for which our board has expressed unanimous support. On a personal note, my reaction was to think that we are working to plunge New Hampshire back to the 19th century. However, I soon realized that this is not correct interpretation of events. In the 19th century New Hampshire had a thriving rail industry. Clearly, you and some of your colleagues on the council have a different vision for the economic advancement of the Nashua region than we in city government have. Cooperation needs to start with understanding of vision. In that spirit, I would like to invite you to meet with our board and explain what your vision is for the growth of our region. As our meetings are locally televised, you can also share that vision with your constituents in Nashua. Our next meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 13th, in the Aldermanic chamber of city hall. If you are able to attend, we’ll be glad to hear the rationale behind rejecting rail, and what your alternative thoughts are. If you are unable to attend, please let me know a more suitable date and we will arrange a meeting at your convenience. -Brian McCarthy President, Board of Aldermen, Nashua. APPOINTMENTS BY THE MAYOR MARCH 13, 2012 Downtown Improvement Committee Elizabeth Anne Skladany (New Appointment) Term to Expire: December 13, 2013 92 Main Street, #205 Nashua, NH 03060 I respectfully request that this appointment be confirmed. Donnalee Lozeau Mayor
