Minutes of the Board of Assessors
Meeting of April 1, 2010
A meeting of the Board of Assessors was held on Thursday, April 1, 2010, in Room 208, 2nd floor of City Hall. The
meeting was called to order at 8:17 AM by Acting Chair Dominic D’Antoni.
Members Present:
Kevin Moriarty Dominic D’Antoni (Acting-Chair)
Assessing Staff Present:
Angelo Marino Robert Gagne Gary Turgiss
Greg Turgiss Louise Brown Cheryl Walley
Minutes of the Meeting: Minutes for the meeting held on March 18th were approved unanimously.
Abatement Requests Presented: A complete listing of approvals/denials is available in the Assessor’s Office.
Appointments: none.
Staff Items: Deputy Assessor Robert Gagne advised the Board members that due to budget constraints, the
Assessing Department is under some pressure to cut back on paper and toner usage and asked if photos of properties
being reviewed by the Board could be printed black and white since the properties will be viewed using Pictometry on
the overhead screen at the meeting. The Board agreed. He asked if they would mind if the packets were printed
double-sided to save paper and the Board agreed to that as well.
Supervisor of Assessing Administration, Ms. Louise Brown, presented a warrant for a report of wood cut and the
Board members present signed the warrant.
Chief Assessor Angelo Marino referring to a request the Board received in their mailing from Mr. Peter LaFlamme
advised the Board that the law currently does not allow those not receiving Title II or Title XVI Social Security to
receive a disabled exemption. Mr. LaFlamme’s letter advises he is aware of this requirement in the law but is asking
that an exception be made and that he be considered for a disabled exemption even though he is not currently
receiving Title II or Title XVI Social Security. He gives reasons in his letter why he feels the exception should be
made.
The Board discussed the fact that they must abide by state law and do not have authority to go outside of the law. For
this reason the request must be denied. After a brief discussion the following motion was made:
MOTION BY Dominic D’Antoni to deny the request of Mr. Peter LaFlamme for the disabled exemption for tax year
2010 due to the taxpayer not meeting the criteria set by RSA 72:37-b as of 4/1/2010.
SECONDED BY Kevin Moriarty.
MOTION CARRIED.
Old Business: none
MOTION BY Dominic D’Antoni to adjourn at 8:40 AM.
SECONDED BY Kevin Moriarty.
MOTION CARRIED unanimously.
