Minutes of the Board of Assessors Meeting of September 15, 2011 A meeting of the Board of Assessors was held on Thursday, September 15, 2011, in the Room 208, 2nd floor of City Hall. The meeting was called to order at 8:20 AM by Acting Chair Dominic D’Antoni. Members Present: Dominic D’Antoni Kevin Moriarty Assessing Staff Present: Angelo Marino Cheryl Walley Minutes of the Meeting: Minutes of the meeting of August 18, 2011 were tabled for approval until the next meeting when both members that were present at that meeting are in attendance. Abatement Requests Presented: A complete listing of all abatements approved/denied is available in the Assessor’s Office. Appointments: None. Staff Items: Chief Assessor Angelo Marino reviewed the appeals currently pending with Superior Court and the Board of Tax and Land Appeals (BTLA). Among the appeals filed with the BTLA, there are two (one a Disabled Veterans Credit and one Disabled Exemption) that were initially denied for untimely filing, after which each of the Taxpayers filed an appeal with the BTLA. The BTLA approved both of these, after reviewing the filings of both the Taxpayers and the City, but without having a hearing, saying that the taxpayers application should have been accepted late based on accident, mistake or misfortune. For these two BTLA Decisions, our Legal Department has filed a Motion for Re-consideration with the BTLA. MOTION BY Dominic D’Antoni to adjourn at 8:35 AM. SECONDED BY Kevin Moriarty. MOTION CARRIED.
