MEETING MINUTES
BOH Members Present: Dr. Anthony Storace, Dr. Klementowicz
Aldermen Present: Lori Wilshire

Meeting called to order at 12:30 p.m. by Dr. Storace
1. Vote on the February 8, 2012 meeting Minutes:

Department Reports
Community Health – Presented by Nancy Seskes
No new lead cases this month
STD/HIV
o We should be hearing about the Grant this week
Eight new refugees came to the Clinic during February
There have been some latent TB cases
Flu and immunization clinics continue during regular clinic hours
o The state has identified the child care centers that need to be assessed for immunizations
School health records continue to be reviewed
Standing orders for the clinic are being revised and standardized using evidence based practice
and CDC recommendations.
Dr. Storace requested information regarding flu season
o Discussion was held
Health Education and Tobacco – Presented by Corinn Dembkoski
Health Education
o The CHIP Planning Group spent the month prioritizing its health issues for the Nashua
Region.
o National Public Health Week will be April 2nd – 8th
Tobacco Prevention and Control
o Nashua Prevention Coalition is applying for the Drug-Free Communities Grant.
If awarded, the grant will help fund a full-time staff person to facilitate the group
and implement initiatives around alcohol, prescription drugs and marijuana abuse.
o Worked with the staff of Marguerite’s Place to provide resources and conduct a support
group.
The support group met once to assess the women’s readiness to quit and discuss
ways to monitor their smoking habits.
o NACCHO/Tobacco Stakeholders Meeting
Nashua was awarded a grant from NACCHO to create an action planning
committee. This committee will work together to develop strategies that support
and promote evidence-based tobacco control programs.
Environmental Health – Heidi Peek and Victoria Alabi presented
Heidi
o We have begun interviewing for our open position
o Bed bugs are still present and we are receiving calls
o We are looking at food services documents and updating them
o Catering company in the City was closed down
After meeting with the current owner and reviewing procedures, the owner agreed
to make necessary changes
He will have his people participate in “ServSafe” training.
The outcome of this incident was positive.

Victoria
o CHIP
Currently working with Division Staff to manage CHIP Planning Group and
strategic planning process
Developed goals and objectives and ranked priorities
Next we will identify resources
o Healthy Homes
Partnered with the Division nurses to plan a brief 20 minute hand-washing/cough
etiquette workshop in honor of National Public Health Week.
o Conducted a MRSA training for the new trainees at the Nashua Police Department
Emergency Preparedness - Patty Crooker presented
Attended the NACCHO EP Summit in Anaheim, CA in February.
o The highlights were training on “Risk Smart, Viral Savvy” which focused on Crisis
Emergency Risk Communications and social media.
o Participated in a NACCHO focus group on the use and integration of Incident Command
System in Public Health. The purpose of the project was to look at how local health
departments have integrated ICS internally as part of their emergency response team.
Completed the TAR and we should be receiving our score soon.
Working with the Multnomah County Advance Practice Center with their project to revise a pre-
existing tool aimed to help local health departments develop internal emergency plans, policies
and procedures.
o We are one of two LHDs nationally that have been chosen to evaluate the tool they have
developed to assist local health departments create internal emergency response and
continuity plans.
Submitted a proposal to do school based influenza clinics in the Nashua region.
Welfare - Bob Mack presented
There was a slight decrease in expenditures during the month of February
Contacts and interviews were down significantly
o Other municipalities have reported decreases in their numbers as well
We assisted about the same number of applicants in February
There were no motel/emergency shelter placements during the month
Received annual Point in Time numbers; there were 311 homeless people, which is the same as
last year.
The winter moratorium on natural gas protection ends in mid April
SSI income for any member of a household is now being counted as income

A proposal was made to the members of the Board of Health to donate $2,500 from their Chairman
Fund to help with the CHIP project.
