NASHUA ETV COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, June 9, 2015 Berard Masse Administration Building A regular, monthly meeting of the Nashua School District Nashua ETV Committee was held Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 10:00 am. The meeting was held in Conference Room 1 in the Berard Masse Administration Building. Chair Stacy Hynes, Director, Grants and Community Development, presided; Dana Naas, Secretary, Grants and Community Development, recorded. Committee members present: Cherrie Fulton Nashua School District Jenn Hosking Nashua Public Library Ed Lecius Nashua Police Department (CTAB) Theresa Lucier Bishop Guertin High School Pete Johnson Nashua ETV Administrator Roll Call: Stacy opened the meeting at 10:01 am and performed roll call. Dana’s Last Day with Nashua ETV: Stacy said today’s meeting is Dana’s last day with the Education Channel. The position of Secretary in the Office of Grants and Community Development in District Office, Dana’s position, is eliminated due to budget constraints. Members celebrated by sharing a delicious blueberry coffeecake baked by Stacy. Members also presented Dana with a beautiful blue and white flower arrangement along with their good wishes and regrets that she would no longer be part of the Committee. Dana expressed her sincerest thanks for the flowers, their thoughtfulness, and that it has been a real pleasure to serve the Committee since its inception in January 2007. Members reflected on Nashua ETV’s progress over the past eight years. Review 04.10.15 and 3.10.15 Meeting Minutes: Cherrie Fulton noted one correction to the April 14 minutes: Under “Graduations” the date for the Title I Preschool graduation should be changed from 06.17.15 to 06.15.15. ED LECIUS MOVED TO ACCEPT THE APRIL 14, 2015 AND MARCH 10, 2015 MEETING MINUTES AS CORRECTED; THERESA LUCIER SECONDED. SO VOTED. Joel Iwaskiewicz, Nashua ETV Host for I on Education: Stacy said a new and welcome development this year for Nashua ETV was the I on Education program with Joel. Stacy said Joel is always willing and ready to do a program which only requires brief preparation due to his familiarity with Nashua schools both as a graduate and teacher at NHS South. Stacy will send Joel a letter of commendation on behalf of the Nashua ETV Committee. • 04.22.15 Destination Imagination • 05.04.15 6th Grade Push Up Day • 05.18.15 Class of 2015 Officers: Joel interviewed class officers from the Academy of Science and Design on May 26, 2015. Class officers from NHS North or South were not available for interviews due to their very busy spring schedules. Stacy said that the month of May may not be the best time for class officer interviews; she will note that a better time may be in February of March of the school year. • Additional Interview Ideas: Stacy asked members to send her ideas for interview programs. o I on Education Programs for next year – Pete said two interview programs are already lined up for next year: 1) Broad Street Elementary School improvements and renovations – Joel will tour the building with the school principal while filming. Stacy said more thought should be given to the presentation of the Broad Street Elementary project and that better communication with the community is needed on the expenditures for capital improvements and investments in our schools. Cherrie said before and after pictures would be beneficial to show the progress of the project, particularly for the upcoming Sunset Heights renovation. Stacy said she already has photos and video from the Broad Street project. Nashua ETV Minutes, June 9, 2015 2) Nashua Goes Back to School at the Nashua Public Library, Thursday, August 27, 2015 – Joel will interview students and families during the evening. There were 379 telecasts in April representing over 351 hours of local programming, including nine live meetings. May provided 393 telecasts representing over 368 hours of local programming, include nine live meeting. • BOE/Student-Produced/Sports Programming April and May 2015: o Sports − NHS North vs NHS South Baseball at Holman Stadium − Girls and Boys Lacrosse at Stellos Stadium o I on Education − Destination Imagination − 6th Grade Push Up Day o Gate City Challenge Academic Bowl at NHS North o Budget discussion between Aldermen and students at NHS South, recorded by NTC-HDTV o Nashua’s Civil War History Walking Tour with Alan Manoioan o Battle of the Books Finals at Main Dunstable Elementary School o Nashua Catholic Regional Jr. High National Honor Society Inductions o Live coverage of the National Weather Service SKYWARN Tornado Training o School Spring Concert − Bicentennial Elementary School − New Searles Elementary School − NHS North Spring Chorus Concert − NHS South Spring Pops Concert o Nashua Historical Society − Two New England Towns Do Battle o Seniors Count Program − Medical Care – Keeping it Straight − Understanding Dementia − Avoiding Scams Against Seniors − Coping with Changing Behaviors o Nashua Lion’s Club Teacher of the Year Presentation o Nashua Memorial Day Parade • CTAB Meeting o Stellos Stadium Network Upgrade Request: Pete asked members to review the copy of the letter from Nick Miseirvitch, Infrastructure Team Leader, City of Nashua IT Division, dated May 8, 2015, to the Cable Television Advisory Board, CTAB. Nick sent the letter to request CTAB consider a quote from Fiber Optic Splicing & Testing (FOST) to install necessary fiber optic cable to restore network connectivity between Stellos Stadium and the City Traffic Building. Nick recommends installation of the fiber optic cable in place of old failed copper line pairs and media conversion hardware that is no longer available. Pete said CTAB authorized expenditure at its last meeting to run the fiber cable to provide a reliable line signal. Review and approval of suggested announcements/suggested programming: • Suggested Announcements o Lyme disease PSA/other Public Health PSAs: Pete said an announcement is currently being run on Channel 96. Pete said he will run an announcement on Nashua ETV as well. Page 2 of 3 Nashua ETV Minutes, June 9, 2015 • Suggested Programming o Silver Nights Baseball – Education Day: Pete said the Silver Knights Baseball Education Day game for students takes place at 11:00 am today at Stellos Stadium. Pete said he plans to cover six or seven Silver Knights games at Holman Stadium through August. o Broad Street Construction Project (Fall 2015) o Dedication, Manford Byer: Stacy said a bench in Stellos Stadcium will be dedicated at the Turkey Bowl 2015 in memory of Manford Byer, long-time soccer coach for the NHS South girls soccer team. o Awards Programs − Lions Club Teacher of the Year − Nashua Education Foundation Teacher of the Year Awards, October 2015 - There are several categories for awards; the deadline to submit nominations is June 20. Dana will create an announcement for Nashua ETV. − Partners in Education Volunteer Blue Ribbon Awards - Theresa suggested Nashua ETV cover the annual Volunteer Blue Ribbon Awards presentation that takes place in October at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester. Stacy said she will look into covering the event. Pete asked members to let him know about any other upcoming awards and he to cover for Nashua ETV. o Graduations − Nashua High School North 06.14.15 − Nashua High School South 06.14.15 − Project Search (no Nashua students this year) − Nashua Adult School Graduation 06.12.15 − Nashua Summer School Graduation 07.30.15 − Bishop Guertin High School 06.07.15 − Title I Preschool 06.15.15 10:00 am o Nashua Public Library − Summer Reading Program Kickoff, Saturday, June 20, 10:00 am to 7:00 pm − Nashua Reads, Euphoria by Lillie King. Stacy will include the above events in eNews. − New Library Website: A new website will be launched the end of June. An announcement will be on Nashua ETV. o Nashua Community Summer Events − SummerFun Kickoff last week. The event was well-attended. − Fairy Tale Festival and Touch-a-Truck Events – Stacy said she will promote both events through eNews. Pete said he has covered the Fairy Tale Festival in the past but now the Access Channel covers the event. Publicity: None. Communication: None. Public Comment: None.
