Ethnic Awareness Committee October 15, 2013 City Hall Call to order at 3:40 Read Statement of Purpose Roll Call: Members Present: Jared Barbosa, Scott Jacquith, Tom Lopez, Carlos Camacho Johnny Perez, Andrew Smith, Paul Bergeron, Janeth Orozco, Bernadette Melten­Plante, MaryAnne Melizzi Goljia. Report/Discussion Carlos Camacho: Program (Program start date: February) Program aims to run training for officers in working with youth. Working with youth on proper police to civilian interaction. Teaching youth on aspects of Police Dept. Andrew Smith (Disproportionate Minority Contact) Counseling Release for Juveniles Federal Funds set aside for program Stated by Andrew Smith: “We are the only state that has this” Gate City Initiative Symposium Update Scott Jacquith: Symposium Nov 1st at Rivier University Suzan Darkos and Andrew Smith are guest speakers 3 Different panels­ Not all Latinos, Islam is NH, Emerging Leaders. Everything has been finalized and it looks good to go. Youth Leadership Program Discussed a change in the first get together for this program. Looking for it to be more of a social—Pizza. Ages 15­21. Recruiting for members to be done by members of NEAC. Youth will engage in Policy making. Open Discussion NEAC spoke about setting up Subcommittees and/or Working Groups, and the differences between the two. NEAC communicated about, why there hasn’t been a Citizenship Ceremony in Nashua and how we would go about having one.
