Remarks by Chairman
Alderman Tabacsko
Thank you everyone for coming this evening. The next meeting with probably just be the Construction Projects
Committee meeting and we'll skip the JSSBC meeting for July.
Committee Reports
Alderman McCarthy moved that the minutes of the Construction Projects Committee meeting held on
Thursday, April 21,2011 be accepted, placed on file and the readings waived. So Voted.
Alderman McCarthy moved to suspend the rules to allow for an oral report of a meeting of the
Construction Projects Committee held earlier this evening. So voted.
Alderman McCarthy
The Construction Projects Committee met earlier this evening and took the following actions:
Recommended approval of Amendment IA to the agreement between the owner and construction manager. This is
the addition of the Ledge Street School to the scope of the project and increases the amount to $2,964,018 which is
the cost of the work at Ledge Street.
The committee also approved a number of trade contracts for Ledge Street. First we approved dry wall and soffit
work to VPS Dry wall, L.L.C. in the amount of $78,829. I would note that this $12,000 over budget Tor that work,
but we were running under budget for the project is about at budget with that bid.
JSSBC COMMITTEE MEETING June 14, 2011
We recommended awarding the demolition work for EnviroVantage lor $63,225; the millwork to School
Furnishings, Inc. for $56,700; the door, frames and hardware to Lang Door & Hardware for $17,300; the flooring to
A&E Flooring for $13,150; the acoustical ceilings, baffles & dry wall panel to Granite State Acoustics, Inc. for
$30,589; the visual display boards to School Furnishings for $6,818; the sprinkler work to New Hampshire Fire
Protection for $10,430; mechanical work to RTH Mechanical Contractors, Inc. for $1,220,424; and the clectrical
work to Liberty Electric, Inc. for $214,000.
In all cases, those were the low bidders and bids that met the scope of work in the request.
We also recommended the award of a contract to Page Street leasing for 4 storage trailers at 2 schools in the amount
of$4,600, and the increase in the hazmat purchase order from $25,000 to $50,000. We have $100,000 budgeted, so
we're in good shape with hazmat so far.
ALDERMAN MCCARTHY MOVED THAT THE JSSBC CONCUR WITH THE
RECOMMENDATIONS MADE BY THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS COMMITTEE ON
JUNE 14,2011.
SO VOTED.
ALDERMAN McCARTHY MOVED TO APPROVE PAYMENT TO HARVEY CONSTRUCTION
IN THE AMOUNT OF $33,545.74; TO TURNER BUILDING SCIENCE IN THE AMOUNT OF
$27,376.80; AND TO ENVIROVANTAGE IN THE AMOUNT OF $15,800 FOR A TOTAL OF
$76,722.54.
SO VOTED.
Alderman McCarthy
And lastly, we have bids coming in for the remainder of the trades at Ledge Street. And given the issues with
scheduling a meeting, I would make the following motion:
ALDERMAN McCARTHY MOVED THAT THE JSSBC PRE-AUTHORJZE THE
CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS COMMITTEE TO APPROVE THE AWARD OF THOSE LAST TRADE
CONTRACTS IN A TOTAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $250,000.
Alderman Vitale
What bids are we still expecting?
Mr. Niklas
We're expecting masonry, miscellaneous metal, metal studs and drywall, roofing and painting.
Mr. Hallowell
If one of these happens to comc in too high, would you then have to call the JSSBC?
Alderman McCarthy
I would anticipate that if one o f t h e m comes in too high and the rest don't come in a little low, then we would. But
if we can fit it within the budget, we'll just approve them.

Alderman Co»
Are the storage units replacing the need for the little storage totes we were going to get a price on? Or are wc still
looking into that?
M r . Smith
Last month you approved the standard cardboard totes and you asked me to look into plastic ones. They would be
ten times what w e ' r e paying for cardboard. And these outside containers are just to get s t u d out of the classrooms.
Alderman LaRose moved to adjourn. So voted at 7:17 p.m.
