Alderman McCarthy
The Construction Projects Committee met earlier this evening, and I received a report from the Architect and
Construction Manager that construction at Ledge Street and Fairgrounds is essentially complete, and that Charlotte
is ongoing. The only action taken other than the approval of invoices was to recommend approval of the Certificate
of Substantial Completion for Ledge Street School.
ALDERMAN McCARTHY MOVED TO APPROVE THE CERTIFICATE OF SUBSTANTIAL
COMPLETION FOR LEDGE STREET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
JSSBC COMMITTEE MEETING June 28, 2012
Mr. Hallowell
At the end of the Construction Projects Committee meeting, I heard that there was some small rattling that was
being dealt with. With no one in the school now until probably September, if we find any other problems as we
move along that need fixing, when does our warranty or guarantee expire for those kinds of items?
Mr. Smith
Generally everything in the school has a one year warranty. The staff has been in quite a bit of the school starting in
October. So this one thing is a fairly isolated small issue, and we’re turning everything back on in September and
would still have plenty of time to get things corrected.
Mr. Hallowell
We might consider that when they do get back to school next September, having a teacher for the teachers to
respond to. Is it meeting what we expected with evenness of the heat, etc.? It might not be things people would
complain about, but it could be helpful information if we asked.
Alderman Tabacsko
In addition I would use that opportunity to remind them to keep stuff off the counter tops.
Mr. Mosher
I agree with the idea of a survey, but would wait until the heat is turned on.
Mr. Dowd
We have a year, and probably wouldn’t do it as soon as school starts when they have a lot of things going on.
Mr. Hallowell
At one meeting Mr. Ryder suggested that we put a bump or something in front those registers so that teachers have
at least some barrier to where papers won’t push back. Has anything ever been done to that suggestion?
Mr. Smith
We have not done anything to this point. It’s an issue at one school and not the other, but we haven’t done anything
further with that.
Mr. Ryder
I hope that we look into that possibility from the word go at Charlotte Avenue.

Now that we have Ledge and Fairgrounds done, I’d really like to express my thanks to the Turner Group and to
Harvey Construction for getting them done on time and way under budget, and producing good results for Nashua
once again.
