Mine Falls Park Advisory Committee- Dec. 3, 2012 Minutes
ATTENDEES: Joshua Segal, Greg Andruskevich, Nick Caggiano, Sherm Sewell, Richard Gillespie, Mike Dillon, Ed Moran, Carol Rust, David Silva: Guest: Pam
Anderson.
TOPIC LEAD DISCUSSION / CONCLUSIONS
1. Approval of minutes Joshua - Meeting called to order by committee chairman Joshua Segal at 6 p.m. at Estabrook Grill, Palm Square.
- Motion by Dick, second by Mike to accept minutes for November meeting be accepted and placed on file without
change. Passed unanimously.
2. Park/Rec Nick - Long sleeve t-shirts 85 cents extra, $5 extra if Beefy tees.
- Lisa Fateaux, DPW on board to have an Andrews type bridge built at the R47, red trail danger area. Need to have her
walk the trail with Dick and himself. City engineer has CAD files so no research necessary for type of bridge.
- Mentioned he went with Dick to view site and also have photos of rooted area taken by Greg to formulate the type of
bridge needed and Andrews-style bridge fits the bill.
3. Chairman's notes Joshua - Joshua spoke on his two years as chairman.
- Learned the more crowded a trail area is the less trash and undesirables appear.
- Noted he and Greg cleaned the Cove trail initially would get two dozen beer bottles, etc., but when members of the
committee chipped in and reclaimed the Cove trail less trash is now evident.
- Cannot ignore any part of the park for then the trashers take over. Also cited Maple Island and the cleaning of that
area and keeping it clean with the absence of the homeless "campers."
- Noted as a failure the opportunity to open up the north side of the park across the river due to snags including law
enforcement issues, some committee opposition including Peter.
- Noted Greg's latest photos from that side of the park show that if done properly that area can become a civilized part
of park land.
- Praised Leo Parker for all his efforts in the park at trail days and is sorry he is leaving the committee but realizes that
at 84, being close to family is uppermost on one's thoughts.
-Wished Leo could have attended the meeting so he could thank him for his efforts at a public session.
- Glad that the committee is no longer a good "old boy's club" with the addition of Carol Rust and the soon swearing in
of Pam Anderson.
- Passed on an e-mail from trail day regular Shoko who thanked the committee for the work it does in keeping the park
clean and appreciates everyone's efforts.

4. Old Business All. - Capital expense suggestions.
- One capital expense item would be the placing of the bridge on the Red Trail...Cost was about $60,000 but that figure

- Purchase of a new Polaris to replace the aging one which Nick explained would have to be done soon. Uses of the

locations in the park and used on a daily basis by the summer interns in doing their duties in hauling many items
across the park.
- Financially Nick felt the cell tower fund would have in excess of $500,000 by the end of the month.
-Also mentioned by Ed was the fact the paving which will be done in the park this spring.
- Nick will explore the use of Police Explorers in the park as a "police presence" in the park during the summer
months.
