The audio of the meeting malfunctioned; the minutes were compiled by Committee Clerk Don LeBrun’s Notes PERSONNEL/ADMINISTRATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE APRIL 4, 2016 A meeting of the Personnel/Administrative Affairs Committee was held on Monday, April 4, 2016, at 7:10 p.m. in the Aldermanic Chamber. Chairman Benjamin M. Clemons presided. Members of the Committee present: Alderman-at-Large David W. Deane, Vice Chair Alderman Tom Lopez Alderman Don LeBrun Members not in Attendance: Alderman June M. Caron Also in Attendance: Mayor Jim Donchess PUBLIC COMMENT – None INTERVIEWS Arts Commission Alison Bankowski (New Appointment) Term to Expire: April 1, 2017 Mayor Donchess introduced Ms. Bankowski for consideration as a member of the Arts Commission. Ms. Bankowski was the founder of the Downtown Art Movement of Nashua since July, 2012, and sees Nashua as a thriving arts community. She is currently Treasurer and Outreach & Promotions Director of Positive Street Art. Judith Carlson (New Appointment) Term to Expire: April 1, 2017 Mayor Donchess introduced Ms. Carlson for consideration as a member to the Arts Commission. Ms. Carlson is Vice President of City Arts. Ms. Carlson stated that Nashua has an awarding winning theater in Nashua. She is very familiar with many individual in the arts community that she would be working with if appointed including street artists and visual artists within the community. Alderman Lopez feels the Mayor made very good choices in bringing forward the appointments of Ms. Bankowski and Ms. Carlson. Alderman Deane stated that if any money is appropriated for arts, Public Works would only oversee the placement and safety of pieces of art. The selection process should be made by the Arts Commission, not one individual. Planning Board Michael Pedersen (New Appointment) Term to Expire: January 5, 2020 Mayor Donchess introduced Mr. Pedersen for consideration as a member to the Planning Board. Mr. Pedersen would be the Mayor’s designee throughout the Mayor’s current term. Personnel 4-4-16 Page 2 COMMUNICATIONS – None APPLICATION TO LICENSE HAWKER'S, PEDDLER'S, ITINERANT VENDOR'S LICENSE - None APPOINTMENTS BY THE MAYOR Arts Commission MOTION BY ALDERMAN DEANE TO RECOMMEND THE CONFIRMATION OF THE APPOINTMENT OF ALISON BANKOWSKI AND JUDITH CARLSON TO THE ARTS COMMISSION FOR TERMS TO EXPIRE APRIL 1, 2017 MOTION CARRIED Planning Board MOTION BY ALDERMAN LEBRUN TO RECOMMEND THE CONFIRMATION OF THE APPOINTMENT OF MICHAEL PEDERSEN TO THE PLANNING BOARD FOR A TERM TO EXPIRE JANUARY 5, 2020 MOTION CARRIED UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None NEW BUSINESS – None DISCUSSION Alderman Deane discussed merit employee legislation he intends to introduce which would be referred to Personnel for review and consideration at a future date. PUBLIC COMMENT – None REMARKS BY THE ALDERMEN Alderman LeBrun announced the Greek Food Fest would take place this year on May 20 and May 21.
