SPECIAL PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE MARCH 4, 2010 A special meeting of the Planning and Economic Development Committee was held on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Nashua High School South Media Center. Chairman Michael J. Tabacsko presided. Members of Committee present: Alderman Richard J. LaRose, Vice Chair Alderman-at-Large Mark S. Cookson Alderman-at-Large Barbara Pressly Alderman Arthur T. Craffey, Jr. Also in Attendance: Mayor Donnalee Lozeau Alderman-at-Large Brian S. McCarthy Alderman-at-Large Lori Wilshire Alderman Diane Sheehan Alderman Mary Ann Melizzi-Golja Alderman Jeffrey T. Cox, arrived after roll call. President McCarthy facilitated the special meeting. He stated for the record that all of the members of the Board wanted to be in attendance at the public input sessions. However, Alderman Deane had to work this evening, Alderman Clemons and Alderman Vitale had personal items to attend to but would try attend if time permitted, and Alderman Chasse was out of town. He explained the Board has undertaken exercises to do strategic planning to try and do some long-term goal setting on a number of occasions in the past. The purpose of the meeting was to solicit public input on issues of importance to be incorporated into the goal setting process and policy decisions of the Board of Aldermen. He explained several public input sessions are scheduled to take place throughout the city. All input gained will be integrated into one working document during wrap-up sessions of the committee. The public will be kept informed of the process through follow-up meeting(s). Members of the public were asked to provide responses to the following questions: 1) What qualities of Nashua make it a great place to live? 2) What qualities, services, or facilities would make it an even better place to live? 3) On an average day, what things about the city impact the quality of your life? 4) In the area where you live, what issues cause you the greatest concern?
