Community Relations Commission Thursday April 14, 2016 Village Hall, 1000 Civic Center Drive Council Chambers Conference Room Meeting Summary Persons in attendance: Jenny Lee – Chair Trustee John C. Call to Order Commissioner Lee called the regular meeting of the Community Relations Commission to order at 6:05 p.m. II. Approval of Meeting Summary Unanimous Approval of the Meeting Summary from January 14, 2016 III. Reported Citizen Comments / Complaints a. Police and other Village Departments No comments or complaints received b. Telephone / Email Hotlines No comments or complaints received c. Commissioners No comments or complaints received IV. Old Business a. Education and Outreach Chair Lee will contact Open Communities to have a presentation at the July CRC meeting. The Commission would like to have photo ID cards, Dan will assist in creating a design. Carolyn will look into creating a mockup flyer for the purpose of presentation at community events. The Commission will contact the area schools to schedule visits during the fall orientations. The Commission should have a presence at events such as Bike Niles, the 4th of July Parade at Grennan Heights Park and attend Block Parties. V. New Business a. Niles Family Services Meeting Commissioner Lee attended a Niles Family Services meeting on March 22, 2016. Family Services would like to work more closely with the Community Relations Commission. One of the biggest targets is to improve fair housing and to advocate for more permanent affordable housing. The Commission was asked to assist with grants for affordable housing. There are many specifics within the population that need assistance. It was also suggested to communicate more with other Community Relations Commissions within the area. The Commission will look into attending Conflict Mediation Training at the Center for Conflict Resolution or training through NIMS. CRC could possibly assist Family Services with a food or clothing drive once or twice a year. b. Appointment of New Commissioners Carolyn Drblik and Ravi Devi are two names to be possibly appointed to the Community Relations Commission. If both people are added to the Commission, the Ordinance would have to be changed. This request would then be vetted through the General Government/IT Committee and if approved the request would be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval. VI. Next Meeting – July14, 2016 – 6:00 p.m. VII.
