Community Relations Commission Meeting Summary October 13, 2016 Persons in attendance: Carolyn Drblik Jenny Lee Tony Hollenback – Director of Family Services Cathy Spadoni – Interim Secretary Persons absent: Joe Kuffel Dan Ryan Jason Trunco Trustee John C. Jekot Dennis McEnerney – Chief of Police Steve Vinezeano – Village Manager Cammy Fortuna – Secretary Because a quorum was not present, the meeting was not called to order. However, at 6:25 p.m., those present engaged in a discussion of the following topics: Citizen Comments / Complaints Those present reported that no complaints were received. Education and Outreach Commissioner Lee stated that NWMC (Northwest Municipal Conference) has cancelled the November symposium on best practices for community relations commissions due to lack of interest. Only Niles and Skokie expressed interest in participating. Community Outreach In an effort to provide ongoing information to the Niles CRC, Commissioner Lee will ask Maureen Murphy of the Skokie CRC to send a representative to our January 12, 2017 meeting to discuss collaborating on issues. She would like to invite someone from one of the Park Ridge churches, a PADS representative and the pastor of St. John Brebeuf Church to the April 2017 meeting to discuss how we can help the homeless via soup kitchens. (PADS is an interchurch community program that runs from October 1 through April 30 providing shelter, services and housing to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in suburban Cook County.)  Community Relations Commission October 13, 2016 Tony Hollenback explained the process Niles Family Services uses to help someone in financial crisis and discussed subsidized housing in Niles. He will arrange for Commissioners Lee and Drblik to visit Axley Place, an affordable housing development in Glenview, in November. Commissioners should get their photo ID cards from the IT Department and can now distribute the new CRC informational flyer.
