COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION Minutes from the Meeting held on Thursday, July 11, 2019 Commissioner Carolyn Drblik called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in the 3rd Floor Family Services Group Room at the Human Services Building, 999 Civic Center Drive. Persons in Attendance: Vicky Duka - Commissioner Katie Schneider – Secretary CRC Keith Sokolowski - Commissioner John Jekot - Trustee Carolyn Drblik - Commissioner Tony Bertram – Niles Police Dept/Family Services Persons Absent: Joe Kuffel - Commissioner Katie Schneider announced that Brian Sweeney resigned from the CRC because of schedule conflicts with work and family. There is now a vacant position to fill and a current commissioner will need to be chair of the commission. Approval of Meeting Minutes Keith Sokolowski motioned to approve the April 11, 2019 meeting minutes as presented, Vicky Duka second the motion, all were in favor, none opposed. Minutes approved. Reported Citizen Comments/Complaints a. Police and Other Village Departments There were no complaints or inquiries made to the police department or family services. Tony Bertram spoke briefly about cannabis and its impact on students and our neighborhoods. He spoke at length about drug assistance programs and resources available for addiction and families struggling with drug abuse. This includes a new tip line and crisis line. b. Telephone/Email Hotlines No reports, complaints or inquiries were submitted or reported. c. Commissioners Carolyn Drblik followed up with the resident who complained about Nicor wrecking her grass. She was connected to the correct contact at Public Works to determine if there is something that the Village is responsible for and could give her a contact at Nicor. There may be an issue since it is from 2017. Carolyn will follow up. Carolyn also provided a follow up on the resident mentioned at the last meeting who had an issue with her neighbor aggressively pushing into her home to complain about dirt and roaches. The woman was issued a ticket for unsanitary conditions but was very appreciative of the inspector and his attempts to help her. Carolyn also felt that this resident could benefit from Family Services assistance. Old Business Upcoming community events were reviewed and Commissioners will plan to attend to meet with residents and promote the CRC services. New Business There was no new business. Open Discussion and Public Comment There was no open discussion or public comment. Next Meeting The next meeting is on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. in the 3rd Floor Family Services Group Room at the Human Services Building, 999 Civic Center Drive. Adjournment Vicky Duka made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Keith Sokolowski second the motion. All were in favor, none opposed.
