GENERAL GOVERNMENT/IT COMMITTEE MEETING SUMMARY Wednesday, March 19, 2014 The following voting persons were present: Chair George Alpogianis, Cammy Fortuna, Steven Vinezeano. Also present were Marlene Victorine, Joe Annunzio, Kathy Thake, Kathy Barnat, Hayley Garard and Hadley Skeffington-Vos. Absent voting member was Bill Shaw. The meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m. I. Approve Meeting Summary : Meeting Summary of December 4, 2013 was approved. II. Old Business: None III. New Business: i. Waste Hauler Contract. a. Frank Hillegonds from Groot gave a presentation on Groot’s proposal to the Village of Niles for a 5 or 7 year contract extension. He discussed refuse and recycling carts, brush collection, Niles compared to other municipalities, and the opportunities for extending the contract versus bidding it out. Hadley will look into the cost of Public Services handling brush collection. ii. Employee Handbook Review. a. Kathy Barnat reviewed the proposed changes to the non-economic sections of the employee handbook. It is hoped to go to the Board in May and the Village is still waiting on its Attorney, Jill, to review it. iii. Employee Name Tag/Badges. a. Hayley Garard presented her findings on other area municipalities and their policies and practices on name tags. Those present felt that front-desk, customer service-based positions in the Village should have some form of visible identification, like name tags. Police, Fire, Public Works, and Community Development already have embroidered clothes that identify themselves. Cammy Fortuna presented some examples of name tags. Everyone else who doesn’t routinely work at a front counter or with the public should carry their business cards with them and hand those out to those with which they interact. Department heads and other leadership may need name tags for special events. Hayley will identify who in the Village would need a nametag based on discussions and how much it would cost. IV.
