Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Committee MEETING SUMMARY Friday, July 29, 2011 The following persons were present: Chair Chris Hanusiak, Chuck Ostman, Denise McCreery, George Van Geem and Steve Vinezeano. Bob Pilat was absent. Chair Hanusiak opened the meeting at 10:36 a.m. I. Approve Draft Meeting Summaries: a. The Committee approved the draft summary from July 12, 2011. II. Old Business: a. Banners and Milwaukee Avenue. Denise shared designs provided by Project Graphics. A design can be made today with some tweaks. She asked for the preferred design. Sumbrella material is proposed. There was some discussion about the colors and how they will be alternated on light posts. The Chair mentioned the figures should be slimmed up. There was a question by the Chair of whether or not the artist should be informed to ensure it is okay to use on the banners. A release from the artist was requested. 2011 is required on the bottom of the banners. There was a question on whether or not the Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Committee has responsibility of picking the design proposed. It was discussed that the Committee in the past did want banners and at one time was considering a program with the Chamber of Commerce. The Committee discussed which banners to use. Two different designs were chosen to help “mix” it up. Two colors would be used. A decision was made on the two designs, the two banner colors, and that they would be alternated on the poles. There was a visual provided by Chuck Ostman. The committee agreed that the banners should be installed as soon as possible. Ostman asked about the brackets. McCreery stated that more are being ordered then we may need to ensure we are covered. Ostman discussed bracket quality for what was quoted and what was out there. He stated what is out there requires less labor to install. Premium brackets are favored to the brackets quoted. Ostman also mentioned that the installers should be told that it is an IDOT road and requires special requirements. There was discussion about the budget and how the Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Committee is not responsible for it. We try to be frugal, but it is the Administration’s decision at the end of the day. No new meeting is  needed to discuss brackets. The committee agreed on the banners used and that is really all that is needed. The Administration will handle the details. III. New Business: a. No new business was planned. The Chamber Banner Program was proposed for discussion. The Chair discussed restarting the discussion with the Chamber of Commerce. Ostman suggested that the committee review it with the Chamber again to get it back on track. McCreery stated that the Executive Director of the Chamber is aware there in interest to restart. Ostman discussed another meeting to discuss signage and other improvements like banners on Milwaukee. A date of August 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. was set. IV.
