MEETING SUMMARY
Wednesday, October 12, 2011
The following persons were present: Chair Chris Hanusiak, Chuck Ostman, Denise
McCreery, Bob Pilat and Steve Vinezeano.
Chair Hanusiak opened the meeting at 10:34 a.m.
I. Approve Draft Meeting Summaries:
a. The Committee approved the draft summary from October 7, 2011.
II. Old Business:
a. Banner Pricing. The Chair requested to amend the agenda to add banner
pricing information by Bob Pilat. Bob stated that his numbers are based on
an eight hour day, eight banners per hour or 60 to 70 banners in a day.
Those things that would impact this work would be weather (windy), salt
spray on brackets, etc. The cost per banner is about $28 per banner
counting labor and benefits at 40% and equipment costs at FEMA rate.
This can fluctuate based on weather, training, etc. The bucket is moved
from location to location at a lowered and secured position.
Prevailing wage is not required for this work based on information from
Susan Bus who checked with the Department of Labor. Bob is still waiting
for the linear strength information for the poles when weighed down by
banners, etc. Company will return with information.
b. Seasonal Banner Update. McCreery asked if Ostman had catalogs showing
the generic stock banners. He distributed what he had. McCreery searched
the internet for examples. She showed the banner pictures. There was
discussion about banners being too busy in color and text. Play (discover)
Niles, Dine Niles, Shop Niles, etc. were discussed as a theme for the
designs. The banners would be more than just generic seasonal.
The Chair stated that an email was sent over the weekend regarding Chuck
Ostman’s offer to assist McCreery with research on proper banner designs.
He agreed with the email and reiterated that the research is the
responsibility of Denise McCreery.
Elk Grove has banners that are black with the logo, but they change out the
banners frequently. At some point the Village may have a program that
goes beyond the basic banners we are seeking to have designed. Vinezeano
stated that he preferred a basic stock banner at this point. The question was
asked if black is one of the three colors and it is not. McCreery also
showed examples of silhouettes. November 1st was mentioned as the
deadline for this project. There was a request to get the stock photos that
the designer may have for the Committee to review.
McCreery wants to use silhouettes on the banners with tag lines. It was
discussed that we were not going with seasonal banners, but they could
have Winter theme. The Summer banner will have the flag and the logo.
There was a discussion that the first set of banners should be simple and
basic. At a later date when there is more of a banner program, other
banners can be developed.
c. Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape Project Update. Vinezeano stated that
HRGreen returned with information regarding ITEP I funds. It was
explained that there would be about $200k remaining from the first ITEP to
be used for the current project. $100k would go toward the shortfall due to
the project cost and the other $100k would be used for additional work
within the scope of work. Pilat stated that a letter was sent to IDOT
requesting the funds already and the Chair asked Vinezeano to verify this
and to see if anything has changed.
III. New Business:
a. None
IV. Adjournment at 11:21 a.m. Next meeting TBD.
