Victorine MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE Conference Room 218 October 19, 2017 – 11:00 a.m. The Public Safety Committee meeting was held on Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Village Hall. The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. by Chairman Strzelecki. Members Present: Staff Present: Trustee/Chairman Dean Strzelecki Danielle Grcic, Village Attorney Tony Fidanza Kathy Thake, Assistant to the Village Manager Luis Tigera, Police Chief Joseph Penze, Police Deputy Chief Members Absent: Marty Feld, Fire Chief Approval of Minutes T. Fidanza made a motion, seconded by L. Tigera, to approve the minutes of the September 25, 2017 meeting; on voice vote all concurred. New Business Item #1: Prosecution of violations relating to:  625 ILCS 5/6-303  625 ILSC 5/6-101  625 ILSC 5/6-501 Discussion: Village Attorney D. Grcic explained that the Village should adopt the entire vehicle code to allow prosecution of certain offenses on the local call at the Skokie Courthouse. The reason for this action is due to the States Attorney’s office no longer prosecuting these calls because of budget restraints. VOTE: Strzelecki made a motion, seconded by, T. Fidanza. Item #2: No update from the Fire Department Item #3: Chief Tigera discussed a pilot project of switching from an 8 hour Police Officer shift to a 12 hour shift. Chief Tigera discussed the benefits to the community and officers, and stated that Deputy Chief Penze made a presentation during an Executive session at the October 24 Village Board meeting on this matter. If approved by the Board the trial period will be from January 1st, 2018 through December 31st, 2018.
