Victorine MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE EOC/Conference Room 118 NFD October 19, 2018 – 9:00 a.m. The Public Safety Committee meeting was held on Friday October 19, 2018, at the Niles Fire Department. The meeting was called to order at 09:00 a.m. by Chairman LoVerde. Members Present: Trustee/Chairman J. LoVerde Tony Fidanza Luis Tigera, Police Chief Marty Feld, Fire Chief Approval of Minutes: Chairman LoVerde requested that the minutes be approved for the April 19th meeting. The motion was made by Chief Tigera and was seconded by Chief Feld to approve the minutes, and on voice vote all concurred. New Business: Chief Tigera led a discussion on the subject of “Sex Offender Registration.” The conversation reviewed the requirements and how it would be enforced. It was recommended that the Chief bring the matter to the Village Board which was approved. Chief Tigera also led a discussion on “Arcade Sweepstakes.” Chief Tigera explained what they are and that they are not licensed by the Illinois Gaming Board (having no oversight or regulations). It was recommended that the Chief work with the legal department to develop criteria/ordinances for the Village. A conversation was held on whether the Village should make a proclamation/recommendation next July pertaining to discouraging the public use of fireworks. There was a discussion on the use of time clocks in the Fire and Police Departments. Chief Feld informed the committee that he is currently working with the Fleet Services manager developing specifications for a new fire engine. A discussion was held on the staffing of both Police and Fire Departments. Chief Feld discussed the conclusion/Period of Performance in regards to Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant (SAFER) and his desire to maintain current levels after the conclusion of the grant. Chief Tigera also shared his staffing goals.
