Victorine PUBLIC SERVICES COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES July 30, 2018 Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 1:30 PM. Roll call was taken and Danette O’Donovan Matyas, Fred Braun, Tony Dati were present. Dan Balzano was absent. Introduction of New Member Fred Braun, Director of Public Services, introduced Tony Dati as the newest member to the EPC. Danette O’Donovan Matyas serves as our chair member. Dan Balzano, serving as Niles resident. New Business Item One: Changing the name of the department from Public Services to Public Works Fred Braun spoke about the need for this change stating, “ Public works needs to have an identity.” The sign in front of Public Services would need to be changed to Public Works. That would have to be budgeted for next year. Words stating the word Public Services in our Code of Ordinances would need to be changed to Public Works. A motion was made to approve the proposed name change. Asbestos removal and rodent inspection can take place prior to the demolition. The Village is receiving a $45,000 credit for recyclable material. Item Three: Street name signs Public Works have received a lot of positive feedback about the signs. The sign project consists of over 1000 signs, not including the neighborhood signs. Installation consists of new anchors, posts, new brackets, and new finials. Public Works are making all the signs from scratch. Time line for this project, will depend of the weather. Public Works are currently saving the old street signs. Public Works and Village Hall are looking to sell, or possibly auction off the old signs. Item Four: Impacts of street parking during plowing operations In 2017, Public Works distributed letters to certain areas of town where the parking problem was most severe. Letters were distributed to the 8300 block of Wisner, and the Village did receive some cooperation. Letters were also distributed to the homes along lower Waukegan Rd, and the problem only became worse. We discussed inviting residents from two more areas of town to join us at our next meeting. We would like to see if we can reach a solution to the problem. The motion was made to approve this course of action.
