Item One: Howard Street Roadway Lighting
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed roadway lighting for
the Howard Street improvements. Fred explained that the Howard Street
improvements are scheduled for construction in 2020. Direction is required from
the Committee regarding the selection of the proposed light fixture, light pole
and mast arm.
The Mayor has requested that a lighted finial be mounted to the top of the light
fixture (which is not currently allowed by IDOT). IDOT has agreed to meet with
the Village and Sternberg (lighting manufacturer) to discuss the issue. The type
of finial that will be placed on the fixture is subject to change. Development of

a finial will likely require several months. Roadway lighting plans for Howard
Street must be submitted to IDOT by May 31, 2019.
Fred asked the committee members if they would approve the light pole, fixture
and mast arm, as presented by Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. (CBBEL),
with the provision that a lighted finial could be added at a later date. The
decision was made to have CBBEL proceed with the design of the proposed
roadway lighting. The fixture will be “Side Mount Style, LED Fixture Head,
Sternberg Solana Model No. SL735”. A Decorative Aluminum Arm, 6 feet in
length will be mounted to a 35-foot Spun Tapered Aluminum Pole. The color of
the pole, arm and luminaire will be “Urban Bronze Matte”.
Item Two: Police Parking Facility Update
An update was provided on the schedule and noted that the project is not
slightly behind schedule. An unimproved alley located to the west of the
project site needs to be vacated due to setback requirements. The committee
was advised that residents adjacent to the alley were already using it as an
extension of their backyards. Construction is still expected to take place in 2019.
Item Three: Fourth of July Parade
Fred informed the committee that Public Works would be participating in the 4th
of July parade along with the Police and Fire Departments on a first responders
float. Families of all three departments will be invited to march or ride on the
floats(s) in a showing of the cooperation between departments.
Item Four: West Central Municipal Conference Suburban Tree Consortium
Fred discussed an upcoming item on the Board of Trustees agenda related to
purchasing trees. Staff is requesting approval to join the subject consortium due
to the many benefits. Benefits include competitive pricing via the consortium
along with a larger selection of species. As species diversification is a top goal
of the department, having a larger variety available is crucial to meeting this
goal. Dan asked about the cost. Fred stated that it is only an annual fee of
approximately $500. The committee unanimously approved recommending this
to the Board of Trustees.
