No audience in attendance.
ART IN THE PARK - 2012
Chairman Miller reported they had a sub-committee meeting and the following was discussed:
72 artists have been mailed acceptance letters. Confirmation emails have been sent to the bands chosen.
Food Vendors will be updated at the next meeting. Volunteers were discussed and how more up front
organizing of volunteers would be needed. Commissioners Fallows and Miller are looking into Boy
Scouts for Eagle projects as well. Last year we had 49 volunteers. The subcommittee discussed how to
be better organized with the volunteers this year to allow for them to do the heaviest lifting, set-up, take-
down and booth sitting. Advertising for volunteers was put in the Newsletter and calls are coming in
already. The subcommittee discussed hiring a volunteer coordinator to organize the volunteers this year.
Advertising in the Chicago Tribune will be the same as last year as well as the special run on Saturday in
Trib Local. Commissioner Luc will work with the Northbrook Star and Northbrook preview if the
Commission is interested.
Commissioners discussed an alternate map that needs to be done for the event as well as updating the
website. Light pole banners also need to be updated.
COMMISSION UPDATES/REPORTS
Spring Workshop Report – Bonnie Siegel
Commissioner Siegel updated the commissioners on the status of applicants for the 2012 Spring Art
Workshops. There are 16 students for the 1st workshop, 4 students for the 2nd workshop and 3 students for
the 3rd workshop to date. So far $3,837.50 has been collected and the commission hopes to receive at least
6 more students to have this event break even on expenditures.
Pop-Up-Gallery Idea Review – Linda Goldman
Commissioner Goldman presented an idea for a Pop-Up-Gallery which was estimated to cost about
$7,350.00. Commissioners discussed this idea and its possibilities. They decided to table this event until
2013 so they can investigate this and more ideas to see what would be the best fit for Northbrook.
An alternate event for Gig on the Green is scheduled to be held at the YMCA. This would be a three part
event starting the week after Northbrook Days. The budget discussed would be $3,500.00 as Gig on the
Green was. These events would take place on three nights in August and letters would be sent by the
Commission to the residents explaining the musical events. Food vendors would be set up by the
Commission as well as any permits required for the events. Event names were discussed and more will
be discussed at the next meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Chairman Miller read a request for a grant of $350.00 for the Historical Society to put toward music for
Shermerfest. Commissioners discussed this request and a motion was made by Commissioner Laughlin
to approve a grant of $350.00 for the Historical Society for Music at Shermerfest. Commissioner Bruce
seconded the motion and all are in favor. Motion passed.
Commissioners discussed the grant proposal form and how they would be viewed, discussed and
approved in the future. A suggestion was made to have grant requests and proposals on two separate
forms. The first draft will be updated and resubmitted to the commission for discussion and approval at a
later meeting.
OLD BUSINESS
Commissioners discussed having a new logo for the Arts Commission. Liaison Maltas will bring an
article regarding new logos for the commission to read. It has been suggested a new logo be accepted for
reproduction and other purposes as the current logo has too many detailed lines and is very hard to
reproduce in a publishing.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The YMCA currently has an Art show at the Library. All are welcome to attend.
Commissioner Bruce will be at St. Norbert’s for the St. Patrick’s Dinner/Dance on March 9 and invites all
to attend. Tickets are $33.00 and reservations are required for dinner.
ADJOURN
Commissioner Bruce made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Jamora seconded. On voice vote, the
motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
