COMMITTEE UPDATES
Art in the Park
Chairman Miller reviewed Erin Malloy’s website and stated it was good. We need to update our website but
Erin’s was good. We have no budget set yet because we are working on the advertising time table and will do
that soon. The Commission has paid Erin Malloy her first payment of $5,000.00. In February we will start
putting the sub-committees together as it worked well last year.
Erin Malloy presented an idea about matching a Northbrook Art Student with an Artist in the show. This
student would display their art in the Artists tent. This would have to be negotiated with the Artists and
students.
Art in the Park will be July 13th and 14th of 2013.
Art Workshops
Commissioner Jamora reported the dates will be April 6th and 7th watercolor workshops with Diane Johnson,
May 4th and 5th pastel portraits with Sally Keller. Joye Moon will be the fall workshop artist. We will confirm
dates with her and the Park District. We are awaiting the Bios requested from the Artists. We will start the
promotions for the workshops in January after confirming all requested dates with the Park District.
Northbrook Originals
Commissioner Robbins reports that the Application is ready for mailing and is on the website already. We
revised our building plan at the Library so the construction is scheduled to start June 1st so we now have access
to the Pollack Room for the Reception. April 4th is our scheduled meeting date and will be the Reception date
as well. The work will be up on the 1st of April until the last day of April.
The application will be sent to Cheryl Fayne-dePersio and Jessica Neton for posting on the Village Website
and for mass mailing. After the first of the year the mail will go out.
Other
Commissioner Block discussed his and Commissioner Laughlin’s visit to Five Seasons Country Club on
Techny Road as a possible venue for various Arts Commission events. They are interested in the commission
having events there and are willing to work with us on our events. There is a possibility the commission will
get the space donated. The layout of the building and property are conducive to musical and other events we
may sponsor. Between the 100 chairs we can use, the Terrace space, the indoor lobby space, the hilly area
outside, the food service area, etc. The area is inviting and beautiful. They want to do the food service but
they also have a liquor license so we may be able to serve liquor for our events. We would have to investigate
how we would utilize the space and present our ideas to them for review and discussion. The main entrance
seems to be the best place for and event and there is plenty of parking just behind it.
Request from Commissioner Laughlin (Music Committee)
The music committee is requesting the Commission approve a grant of $1,500.00 for Rock the Green. This is
an event that we have done for the past three years. This event is on our schedule for 2013 so Commissioner
Laughlin would like a vote on the grant.
MOTION: Commissioner Robbins moves that the commission authorize Commissioner Laughlin to spend
up to $1,500.00 on Rock the Green for the year of 2013. Commissioner Jamora seconded the motion.
Commissioner Fischer abstained from the vote. All are in favor.
Rock the Green is tentatively scheduled for June 7th.
Commissioner Fischer shared that Rock the Green will be a Teen Contest and not a Youth Contest for 2013.
BUDGET
Chairman Miller reported we have $17,000.00 in the bank which includes the $5000.00 just paid to Erin
Malloy for Art in the Park. At this time we have a blank number for this event and we are assuming at best
we will break even for this event. We get the $5,000.00 back as the Artist’s start paying for the show. The
other events already approved or expect we will are the Library Concerts, the Spring Workshops (we have not
seen the cost estimates for this yet). Chairman Miller has punched numbers in (estimates) for these events at
this time. Northbrook Originals is an estimate, Rock the Green will be $1,500.00 and Art in the Park will cost
$5,000.00 or we will break even. We basically have $11,788.00 to plan other events with.
We normally get a grant of $10,000.00 from the Village but remember these funds are not guaranteed. We
currently have $11,000.00 to work with until August or September until the Village approves our grant or
until we get Friends of the Arts activated for the commission.
2013 GOALS & EVENTS
Chairman Miller reported the commissioners did a fantastic job coming up with goals. She combined all the
notes, minutes and goals submitted and sorted them by like items. She compiled a list and presented it to the
commissioners via overhead projector to review. There were 27 items listed in the minutes as well. The
commissioners discussed the items and which ones will be worked on and discussed further in the near future.
Chairman Miller will email out the list and asks commissioners to prioritize the events for her so a sub-
committee can compile them and discuss more in detail for a February report of items.
In February the Report to the Board will include these items as well as others completed last year. As a group
we need to get together and discuss in detail the items on the list and add more detail for the commission to
work with.
Volunteers are needed to get together to discuss and prioritize long term and short term goals as well as doable
events from the list. Chairman Miller will send out different dates to choose from for a couple of meetings.
We are looking for events from August through the end of the year.
Chairman Miller would like to do a survey with Cheryl Fayne-dePersio about Arts events the Northbrook
Residents would like to see or participate in.
Commissioners discussed the Home for the Holidays concert and how great it was and what a great job the
Northbrook Park District. Partnering was discussed and how well it works for events.
Chairman Miller took a poll of what commissioners will be gone for the winter and Sherry will be gone
January and February, Cheri will gone Christmas until April. Commissioner Block will be unable to attend
the month of March and May meetings.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Logo is still be worked on and Chairman Miller has just received a draft of the logo and will bring it to the
February meeting. The goal is to get something that represents the Arts Commission and is easier to reproduce
and format for advertising.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The Northbrook Theatre will be doing Legally Blonde this weekend.
Northbrook Artist Terry Luc is the Artist for the first community gallery showing at the Northbrook YMCA
in January 17th, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The YMCA is looking for more artists to sign up for the
gallery at the YMCA.

Library will have a Hobby Exchange on Sunday, January 27th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drop off dates are
January 25th and 26th.
Chairman Miller discussed with the commissioners regarding purchasing a tent for the Arts Commission with
a logo to use at different events as a information booth, etc. The Arts Commission will be purchasing a tent
with the new logo on it for events in the future. Chairman Miller will be acquiring prices and sizes. The
commission will also be getting prices for new banners as soon as the logo has been finalized.
