APPROVED MINUTES OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK FEBRUARY 11, 2013 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:01 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall in the Terrace Room. Commissioners present: Jerry Block, Maureen Fallows, Elsa Fischer, Linda Goldman, Christopher Laughlin, Eric Robbins, Marilyn Jamora, Cathie Winnie and Jessica Neton, Liaison. Commissioners Excused: Sharon Moyer, Cheri Natenberg and Sherry Weiss. Commissioners Absent: Chad Davidson Guests in attendance:. Cheryl Fayne-dePersio MINUTES: Chairman Julia Miller asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the December 6, 2012 meeting. Commissioner Laughlin called for the motion and Commissioner Robbins seconded. All are in favor with corrections. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: None. COMMITTEE UPDATES Art Workshops Chairman Miller updated the commissioners for Commissioner Jamora and announced all the mailings have gone out and we have five people paid for the watercolor class and one for the pastel class. These workshops are taking place in April and May. Everything seems to be going well and the Park District has reserved the space for the workshops so we seem to be on target. Northbrook Originals Commissioner Robbins reports the deadline has been extended to February 28th and this information is posted on the website and all the materials reflect this change. On Wednesday February 20, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Robbins is holding a session for people having trouble photographing their own work. So far three people have responded for this service. Commissioner Block has promotional samples from last year and he will be working on this. Fran Vale said she would be glad to judge the show for the commission. The Pollack room has been reserved for the reception on Thursday, April 4, 2013. Commissioner Fallows will be in charge of the food for the reception which will be catered this year. Three entries have been received to date. Chairman Miller has requested commissioners send out an email blast to other artists reminding them of the show. This procedure worked well last year. Chairman Miller discussed moving the Arts Commission meeting up to 6:00 p.m. on the night of the reception and has asked the commissioners to think about it and respond at the next regular meeting. Cheryl Fayne-dePersio will be putting the information in the March and April Newsletter from the Village. Information must be given to her by tomorrow morning. The commission will also provide information to the Tower know. Logo Chairman Miller discussed how the sub-committee of seven people have been working on the design of the new logo. Draft logos were presented to the commissioners to review and discuss. Shapes, design and colors were discussed and voted on. After much discussion the commissioners decided no extended A, no block around dancer and the color Teal Blue sample. MOTION: Commissioner Laughlin motions to approve logo design as: Teal Blue for Northbrook Arts Light Gray for Commission No extended A No box around dancer Commissioners will receive via email from Chairman Miller the mocked up version as chosen above to review and comment on via email. If four (4) commissioners object to this version via email, the Chairman will call a special meeting to discuss and re-negotiate the contract for more work on a logo as this contract is complete. Chairman Miller will report back to the commission on the next commission meeting the results if a special meeting is not called. Commissioner Goldman seconded the motion, all in favor. Once approved the logo will have to be registered and then we can order our tent with our new logo on it. ANNUAL REPORT Chairman Miller prepared, sent via email to the commissioners a draft of the report and has received all their comments. Chairman Miller thanked the commissioners and discussed how she has incorporated all the comments and has had the report proofread. Commissioner Laughlin stated on Page 2 (Rock the Green) Fourth paragraph reads: we assisted the Park District and suggests we should change it too “Partnered” with the Park District. Chairman Miller asked the commissioners if they had any financial questions and Commissioner Laughlin questioned where was “Rock the Green”? Chairman Miller will add it to the report before finalizing print. All commissioners reviewed the report and it is ready to be presented to the Board of Trustees. MOTION: Commissioner Block motioned to approve and present the Annual Report as completed to the Board of Trustees. Commissioner Goldman seconded the motion and all in favor. The commission will try and put this on the March 12, 2013 Regular Board of Trustees meeting. OLD BUSINESS AND NEW BUSINESS: None ANNOUNCEMENTS: March is National Youth Art Month. Artist Bonnie Lacat will have her reception on Wednesday night at the YMCA from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for her show and on March 1, 2013 Artist Erin Kane will have her reception. Glenview Art Show will be this weekend and Christopher Laughlin will be performing. ADJOURN Commissioner Laughlin made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Block seconded.
