OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK
AUGUST 1, 2013
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:05 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall in
the Terrace Room.
Commissioners present: Maureen Fallows, Elsa Fischer, Marilyn Jamora, Sharon Moyer, Cherie Natenberg,
Eric Robbins, Sherry Weiss, Cathie Winnie and Cheryl Fayne-dePersio, Liaison.
Commissioners Excused: Jerry Block and Christopher Laughlin.
Commissioners Absent:
Guests in attendance: Erin Melloy, EM Events
MINUTES:
Chairman Julia Miller asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the June 6, 2013 meeting.
Commissioner Moyer called for the motion and Commissioner Weiss seconded. All are in favor as noted.

ART IN THE PARK review
Chairman Miller reported Sherry Weiss’ husband Steve took photographs that will be available soon for
review. Three questions were asked of the commissioners:
What did you like about the recent event?
What didn’t work or needs improvement?
Do we want to have the event in 2014?
Commissioner Weiss
1. The weather was perfect.
2. Fabulous music.
3. Co-operative efforts by all worked well.
4. Loved children’s activity.
5. Food was perfect.
Commissioner Moyer
1. Artists Room – Worked out well and artists liked it. Cheryl Fayne de-Persio did a great job.
2. Artists right outside of artist room were not very happy with their location.
3. Larger signs for bathrooms.
Commissioner Natenberg
1. So many children attended – Very good project.
2. Community Service workers were fabulous.
3. Older children did not have a project. Next year we should do an all pipe cleaner sculpture
activity as the young and older kids liked that idea.
Commissioner Robbins
1. Mawi Wowi and Little Louie’s said they are very happy and will come back next year if invited.
Little Louie’s also donated money to the Friends of the Arts.
2. Community Service kids were great.
3. The Boy Scout Troop 64 worked out nicely.
4. Things were a lot more efficient this year.
5. First Aid kit for information booth is needed.
6. Need the carts on Friday when hauling the larger items.
Erin Malloy – EM Events
1. Stated things went well and enjoy working with the commission.
2. Map for artists parking area should be clearer in the future.
3. The artists said they did well at our show.
4. Check-in should start earlier by one hour.
Commissioner Fallows
1. Looked like things were going smoothly.
2. Little Louie’s ran out of condiments and drinks.
Commissioner Jamora
1. Tables for families down by the food area would be good for next year.
2. Silent Auction was a lot of work.
3. Artists wanted to bring their auction item pieces for the auction when our tent was being set up.
4. The music was outstanding.
Commissioner Fischer
1. The commission should promote ADA for the fair next year.
Liaison – dePersio
1. The Yoga class was great and people seemed to really enjoy it.
2. If we do event again, we should add the Yoga class or Zumba class for Saturday as well.
The commissioners discussed how well the event went this year but also recognized it could always be
better. Also discussed was: more trash cans are needed, the Young Artist group should be more part of
the main show because it is very popular, the artists were pleased with the event and stated they did well.
The Silent Auction went well and Commissioner Robbins held any pieces at the Library that had not
been picked up yet. Commissioner Jamora reported the Friends of the Arts raised $1,454.00 including a
donation of $10.00 (included). 43 pieces were donated by 37 artists including 17 pieces from exhibiting
artists and 26 by Northbrook artists. The Silent Auction was a lot of work from collecting the pieces at
the Village Hall thanks to Cheryl and Sarah and then moving the pieces to the park for display. The pre
art fair work included sending out letters to the Northbrook Artists and then following up with them on
how to pick up the Art or were to deliver it took a lot of time. The average price per piece from the
Northbrook Artist was $29.00 and exhibiting artist averaged $40.00 per piece. The commission used
Bonnie Siegel’s tent and Commissioner Block also helped with the Silent Auction.
Parking was discussed for the Artists and how it could be better in the future and how to promote the
handicap accessibility for parking and the event.
MOTION: Commissioner Fallows motioned to hold the Art in the Park event in 2014 and
Commissioner Weiss seconded the motion. All are in favor.
Commissioner Natenberg volunteered to do the children’s project next year.
At the September meeting the financials will be discussed and more brain storming for the next events. It
looks like the event will be under the budget of $5,000.00.
Chairman Miller and the Commission recognized and thanked the Northbrook Park District, all the
volunteers past and present such as Brian Bruce, Bonnie Siegel, Pat Strong, Judy Hughes, Cecilia Moran,
Lucky Schmidt, Jean Streeter, Boy Scout Troop 64, Village of Northbrook, Nancy Raymond, Steve
Weiss, Michael Greenberg, Steve Weiss, Sarah Gianni, Community Service workers and past
Commissioners.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Emma Trousch will be the next Liaison to the Arts Commission starting in September.
Cheryl Fayne dePersio and Cecilia Moran have volunteered for the Hospitality Room at the next Art in the
Park event.
July 12th and 13th, 2014 is the next Art in the Park event.
Artist Marilyn Jamora is exhibiting at the Book Mart in the Glen.
Anna Ivleva is showing at the Library.
MOTION: Commissioner Fischer motioned to change meeting date from September 5th to September
12th and Commissioner Fallows seconded the motion. All are in favor.
ADJOURN
Commissioner Robbins made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Fallows seconded. On voice vote,
the motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
