MINUTES OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK MAY 1, 2014 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:03 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall in the Terrace Room. Commissioners present: Chairman Miller, Commissioners Jerry Block, Elsa Fischer, Steve Gianni, Marilyn Jamora, Sharon Moyer, Cherie Natenberg and Liaison Emma Trausch. Commissioners Excused: Maureen Fallows, Christopher Laughlin and Sherry Weiss. Commissioners Absent: None Visitors: Erin Malloy, EM Events and Angela Yoffe, Pianist MINUTES: Chairman Julia Miller asked for a motion to approve the minutes as amended from the March 6, 2014 and April 10, 2014 meeting. Commissioner Jamora called for the motion and Commissioner Moyer seconded. All are in favor as amended. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: Angela Yoffe, Pianist, Executive Director for the Chamber Music Festival. This is the 4th season of the festival. The Chamber offers three concerts a year with Musicians from London and elsewhere to perform at the Village Presbyterian Church on June 4th, 6th and 7th of 2014. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. This concert will be live on WFMT Radio. Starbucks is a supporter of the Festivals. The website for more information is nscmf.org. 2014 ART IN THE PARK (July 12 & 13) Chairman Miller showed a poster copy of the new logo for AITP to the commissioners. The commissioners discussed the logo and the poster size. The commissioners would like the dates in Black color and boulder with no slashes. The music acts are set for the event and there will be Yoga again in the morning this year. Zumba was also discussed as an alternate to Yoga. There are currently 60 Artists paid and we should have a final of up to 71 Artists by July 12, 2014. The commission is still working on the judges and radio advertising. We will also advertise in the Northbrook Tower, Northbrook Star (Page 3) and in the Glenview Issue of the star. Little Louie’s has already signed a contract for the event. The commission is looking for Jr. Artists ages 10 to 17 yrs. old. There will be a nominal fee and we can fit eight Jr. Artists under one big tent. The following are some of the tasks for the commissioners to volunteer for: Information booth – Sherri Weiss Hospitality – Cheryl Fayne DePersio and Sharon Moyer Boy Scout Troop will be contacted to help with set-up and take-down Art Commission Tent – Community Service – (Possible) Youth Commission Children’s project – Mobiles out of pipe cleaners SPRING WORKSHOPS Chairman Jamora reported there were 11 participants for the Oil Painting workshop on March 29th and 30th. NORTHBROOK ORIGINALS Chairman Jamora reported the Reception for Northbrook Originals was very nice and about 85 people attended. People are picking up ROCK THE GREEN Chairman Laughlin reports the application form has been approved and they are already started to recruit bands to participate. The semi-finals will be held in the middle of May and the finals will be on June 6th. Advertising has begun for this event. GRANT REQUEST Chairman Miller presented a grant request from the Youth Commission for their Film Festival to the commission. Motion: Commissioner Jamora motioned to approve the request of $200.00 for the Youth Commission, seconded by Commissioner Moyer and all are in favor. YMCA Special Art Event Commissioner Cathie Winnie updated the commissioners on the request from Cove School. The YMCA would now like to have a Special Needs Art Exhibit for two weeks in October. This show would not be juried. The YMCA and Cove School would like to partner with the Arts Commission to help sponsor this event. More information and details will be available during the next few Arts Commission meetings. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The YMCA is looking for artists to display in their community gallery after September 2014. Chairman Miller reported that the Northbrook Park District has won some marketing awards. ADJOURN Commissioner Fischer made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Moyer seconded.
