MINUTES OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK September 11, 2014 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:10 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall in the Shermer Study. Commissioners present: Chairman Miller, Commissioners Jerry Block, Maureen Fallows, Steve Gianni, Marilyn Jamora, Christopher Laughlin, Sharon Moyer, Cherie Natenberg and Liaison Emma Trausch. Commissioners Excused: Elsa Fischer Commissioners Absent: None MINUTES: Chairman Julia Miller announced that the minutes would be deferred to the next meeting. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: None present. 2014 ART IN THE PARK (Close out) Chairman Miller passed out the final budget from the Art in the Park 2014 event. There were 68 Artists instead of 72 and no Silent Auction this year so the loss for this was $2,700.00. Chairman Miller asked the commissioners if she could have the authority to start negotiations with Erin at EM Events and the Park District for the 2015 event and to change the date of the event too July 18th and 19th of 2015. She will bring the contract to the commission before anything is finalized for review and discussion. MOTION: Commissioner Block motioned to approve the Art in the Park event for 2015 event and to give Chairman Miller the authority to work on negotiations with Erin from EM Events and the Northbrook Park District, and to change the date of the event to July 18th and 19th for 2015. Commissioner Gianni seconded the motion and all are in favor. Motion Passed. OVERVIEW OF ART’S COMMISION AVAILABLE FUNDS Chairman Miller shared the budget with the commission and the two requests pending for funds this evening. The budget was discussed and the funds left over would leave enough for the requests pending. A further discussion regarding the budget will be held on October 9th planning meeting. REVIEW REQUEST FROM THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY The commission reviewed the request from the Historical Society for $200.00 for the recharging of the six Fire Extinguishers that the commission borrowed and used for the Art in the Park 2014 event. MOTION: Commissioner Jamora motioned the commission grant the request to the Historical Society for the $200.00 for the six Fire Extinguishers they borrowed from the Historical Society for the Art in the Park event 2014. Commissioner Block seconded the motion and all are in favor. Motion Passed. REVIEW OF GRANT REQUEST FROM THE NORTHBROOK PARK DISTRICT Chairman Miller asked the commissioners to review the request from the Northbrook Park District for the third annual Home for the Holidays concert at Techny that will take place on December 7th in the amount of $3,000.00. The commissioners discussed the request. MOTION: Commissioner Laughlin motioned to approve the request from the Northbrook Park District for the full amount of $3,000.00 for the third Home for the Holidays concert. Commissioner Jamora seconded the motion and all are in favor. Motion passed. SPRING WORKSHOPS: Commissioner Jamora reported there is one workshop scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd of 2014. The artist is Peggi Habets, Watercolor portrait Artist from Pennsylvania. The commission will have to pay the airfare for this artist. Peggi has a website that she will advertise the workshop on and she also told the commission that Peggi has a book out for purchase. Commissioner Jamora is working on another workshop but has no definite Artists or dates yet. She will keep the commission updated on her progress in future meetings. NORTHBROOK LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION STATUS: Commissioner Gianni updated the commission and announced they are planning to have the Concerts on Three in February 2015. The commission will be receiving a Grant request for $1,000.00 at a future meeting for this event. He also announced the Library construction will be completed by April 1st. Northbrook Originals was also discussed and Commissioner Gianni stated the event will be held at the Library but the reception room will not be available. OLD BUSINESS: None. NEW BUSINESS: Chairman Miller announced that Commissioner Sherry Weiss resigned from the commission because she has moved to Arizona. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Commissioner Block has a wonderful 40 piece exhibit hanging at the Y until September 30, 2014. Bonnie Siegel has pieces displayed in the lobby and the Boardroom at the Northbrook Village Hall until September 30, 2014. Michael Lew has artwork hanging in the Boardroom at the Northbrook Village Hall the months of October and November 2014. Chairman Miller announced the October meeting will be a planning meeting for future events and ideas. ADJOURN Commissioner Jamora made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Natenburg seconded.
