MINUTES NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK February 5, 2015 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:06 p.m. in the Village of Northbrook Terrace Room . Commissioners present: Jerry Block, Frank Lamberti, Steve Gianni, Marilyn Jamora, Christopher Laughlin and Liaison Emma Perley. Commissioners Excused: Maureen Fallows, Sharon Moyer and Cherie Natenberg. Commissioners Absent: None Guests in attendance: Sheila Day. MINUTES: Chairman Julia Miller suggested the minutes from the December 4, 2015 for the next meeting. All changes should be sent to Julia Miller for the next meeting. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: Nexter Syhdalo from the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra attended the meeting to introduce himself to the commission and to discuss events in hopes the commission can work with the symphony on some events. UPDATE ON 2015 ART IN THE PARK: Chairman Miller announced the contract is signed between Friends of the Arts and EM Events for the 2015 event. To date there are 60 artists, 30 have already paid and 30 have deposits paid to date. The budget for the event is in progress and will be presented at the March 5th meeting. A meeting with 9 people are being scheduled to discuss advertising and recommendations on the logo for the event. The meeting for discussion only is scheduled for February 24, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at the Park District. The event will be July 18 th and 19th in 2015. Volunteers will be needed shortly so think about it. WEB SITE REDESIGN Chairman Miller announced the new website is up and the commissioners think it’s great. Julie, Emma and Cheryl are trained on it to date. The enw program is user friendly and very easy to edit. NORTHBROOK ORIGINALS Chairman Miller reminded the commissioners the Northbrook Originals will be in April at the Northbrook Library on the second and third floors only due to the construction at the Library. This is a show for Northbrook Artists to show their artwork. The artwork maximum size is 36 X 36. Chairman Miller plus one other will judge the artwork. There will be no hired judges this year for the show. Chairman Miller asked the commissioners if they agree with no hired judges this year. The commissioners approved the change. There is no date set for the reception or show yet. Commissioner Gianni will inquire if the commission is allowed to hold the reception in the Children’s Room o April 9, 2015 and if the commission is allowed to hold a reception. The commission has 6 entries for the show as of today. MOTION: Commissioner Gianni made a motion to change the commission meeting from April 2 nd to April 9th at 6:00 p.m. to be held at the Northbrook Library. Commissioner Block seconded the motion and all are in favor. ROCK THE GREEN Commissioner Laughlin reported there will be semi-finals held on the last two preceding Fridays in May before the finals on June 5th. There will be two winners each night plus one wild card. The commission approved a $2,000.00 grant in November for the event. Commissioner Laughlin will give information to Chairman Miller for the new website. Forms will be available on the website for download. Hearing impaired individuals may call the TDD number, 847 564-8645, for more information. SPRING WORKSHOPS Commissioner Jamora reported there are nine people signed up for each workshop to date. If the commission gets two or three more people, they will break even for the workshops. OLD BUSINESS: Commissioner Laughlin reported the Concert for Africa last Friday raised $4,000.00 and was a fun event. The commission granted $400.00 for the event. There were local bands and the Out of Control band. The turn-out was good. NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Gianni reminded the commissioners that the Concerts on Three program will be starting this Sunday, February 1, 2015 at the Northbrook Library. ANNOUNCEMENTS: None ADJOURN Commissioner Jamora made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Gianni seconded.
