MINUTES OF THE NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK March 5, 2015 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:05 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall in the Terrace Room. Commissioners present: Jerry Block, Steve Gianni, Marilyn Jamora, Frank Lamberti, Christopher Laughlin, Sharon Moyer and Liaison Emma Trausch. Commissioners Excused: Jerry Block, Maureen Fallows and Cherie Natenberg Commissioners Absent: None Guests in attendance: Kate Hall. Executive Director, Northbrook Public Library. MINUTES: Chairman Julia Miller asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the December 4, 2014 meeting. Commissioner Laughlin called for the motion and Commissioner Jamora seconded. All in favor minutes were approved. Motion called to approve the minutes from the February 5, 2015 meeting. Commissioner Moyer called for the motion and Commissioner Jamora seconded. All in favor minutes were approved. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: None FINANCIAL REPORT Chairman Miller discussed the financial cash report and the status of upcoming events that have been approved by the commissioners and other events the commission routinely approves. There are events that will be taking place after September that are not listed yet. The commission discussed having Pole Banners made for Art in the Park and the quote came in at $4,000.00. Our fiscal year ends April 30th of each year and in May of each year we find out what budget we have to work with throughout the year. Commissioner Jamora will be inquiring about the cost for a mirror for the Workshops. She will report back to the commission with the cost when she receives the information. The preliminary budget for Art in the Park was reviewed and will be updated as until the event is over. At that time a final budget will be presented to the Commissioners. This year booth fees were raised to $300.00 per booth vs. $285.00. The event will be July 18th and 19th, 2015. Sponsors can only be solicited by Chairman Miller. She will be actively pursuing some for printing costs, etc. Commissioners will send Chairman Miller any thoughts they have on sponsors. An advertising meeting was held on February 24, 2015 and the artwork for the promotions was reviewed. The Artist chosen will be at the show. The goal is to get as much free advertising as the commission can. Any ideas please send the information to Chairman Miller. Between the Park District, Library and Village there are many ways for free advertising. Also the Artists will be advertising on their websites. NORTHBROOK ORIGINALS: Art for the show has been selected, 41 artists with 41 pieces of Artwork. We partner with the Northbrook Public Library to showcase Northbrook Artists. The reception for artists and their guests is scheduled for 7 pm, April 9, 2015 at the second floor Youth Services room at the Library. The next Commission Meeting will be held at the Library at 6:00 p.m. on April 9, 2015 before the reception. SPRING WORKSHOPS: Commissioner Jamora reported we have the same two Watercolor workshops, one with Gordon France March 28 and 29, 2015 the second workshop is with Peggi Habets on May 2 & 3, 2015. The numbers for the workshops are good so far. If we receive one more participant, we will be above the cost for the workshop. OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: The commission discussed a Grant request from the Northbrook Public Library for the annual Art Show and will vote on this request at the April meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Commissioner Gianni announced the concerts went very well. ADJOURN Commissioner Moyer made a motion to adjourn and Commissioner Gianni seconded.
