NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION
VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK
March 3, 2016
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Julia Miller at 7:00 p.m. in the Village of Northbrook Terrace Room.
Commissioners present: Al Alvarez, Sheila Day, Steve Gianni, Frank Lamberti, Christopher Laughlin, Sharon Moyer.
Commissioners Excused: Jerry Block, Marilyn Jamora and Cherie Natenberg.
Commissioners Absent: None
Guests in attendance: Bruce Bondy (Artist & Architectural Illustrator)
MINUTES:
Chairman Julia Miller asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the February 4, 2016 meeting. Commissioner
Laughlin motioned to approve the minutes from February meeting and Commissioner Moyer seconded the motion. All
are in favor with noted changes, Motion passed.
HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE:
ROCK THE GREEN
Commissioners Laughlin discussed a request for $2,000.00 for 2016 Rock the Green. This will be the 3 rd year of the
event. The commissioners discussed the event and the current budget.
MOTION: Commissioner Day motioned to approve the request for $2,000 for the 2016 Rock the Green Event and
Commissioner Moyer seconded. (Commissioner Lamberti abstained) All are in favor. Motion passed.
2016 ART IN THE PARK update:
Chairman Miller stated the artist deadline is April 1, 2016.
Chairman Miller announced that the contract with Debbie Netter from D&W Events has been signed. Chairman Miller
has been in touch with Debbie regarding the status of the event. A sub-committee meeting is scheduled for March 10,
2016 in the Terrace Room at the Village Hall at 9:00 a.m. with Debbie Netter, Chairman Miller, Commissioner
Laughlin, Commissioner Lamberti, Emma Perley and Cheryl Fayne. All commissioners are invite to attend with they
want too.
A discussion will include what tasks will be the responsibility of the Commission and what the event planner will do.
Also the 17 page action plan will be discussed line by line and finalized. The Commission will be doing the music and
the sound system for the event. Most costs incurred will be paid out by the event planner excluding the music and
sound system. Costs will be discussed as well as tasks. The sub-committee will present the information to the
commission at the April 7th meeting.
The Commission will supply the Art work and the event planner will be responsible for all the advertising.
Chairman Miller is the point person for the event until April 30 th and then Emma Perley will take over and work with
Christopher Laughlin on the event.
SPRING ART WORKSHOPS update:
Chairman Miller discussed the Pastel workshop on March 19 th & 20th. There are 5 people registered for this workshop
and expecting one or two more to register.
The Water color workshop April 30th and May1st is already full and there is a waiting list.

The commission expects to make about $650.00 on the event.
NORTHBROOK ORIGINALS ART EXHIBIT
Chairman Miller discussed the event and stated we have 49 entries this year. This year we have new artists and more
than the pas t two years. The Library provides the manual labor and the commission helps to plan the layout of the art
work.
Chairman Miller is asking the commission if they want their next meeting to start at 6:00 p.m. at the Northbrook Public
Library and end at 7:00 when the reception starts. The commission agrees to change the time and place.
There is normally about 100 artists that attend the exhibit. The budget is $750.00 for the reception and the event. The
Library is still open to the public but the reception is only for the Artists and their guests.
MUSICAL EVENT
Commissioner Laughlin and Alvarez updated the commission that the date is set for May 1 st and May 15th.
Information will be given to the Library for advertising and posters. The commission will put together a press release
to be sent out regarding Art Commissions upcoming events.
Commissioner Alvarez discussed how the dancer will give a 5 to 10 minute talk regarding the background of the music
and the dance. The name for the event is The Latin Experience.
The contracts are being worked on and will be complete soon.
Budgeted for this event is $2,200.00 for Artists fees and $500.00 for sound.
A contract will be signed with the Northbrook Public Library before the event by Chairman Miller and Commissioner
Laughlin.
APRIL POETRY EVENT
The poetry event will be April 17th from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm which will be held in the Auditorium at the Northbrook
Public Library. Currently there are 35 entries received and have been sent to the judges. This event is on schedule.

NEW BUSINESS:
Chairman Miller gave an overview of the Arts Commission and all their upcoming events to guest Bruce Bondy.
Commissioner Day has a showing at the Northshore Art League Community House and Commissioner Moyer is
displaying her artwork in the Village Hall Boardroom.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Commissioner Gianni reported to the commissioners that 2 Piano 4 Hands starts this Sunday. He also reported the
Concerts on Three were all over capacity and went well.
ADJOURN
Commissioner Gianni motioned to adjourn the meeting and Commissioner Lamberti seconded the motion, all are in
favor at 7:47 p.m.
