MINUTES NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK November 3, 2016 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Christopher Laughlin at 7:04 p.m. at the Northbrook Village Hall Terrace Room. Commissioners present: Al Alvarez, Jerry Block, Eileen Loftus, Steve Gianni, Sharon Moyer and Marsha Schwartz. Commissioners Excused: Sheila Day Commissioners Absent: None Guests in attendance: Janet Cordovi. MINUTES: Minutes from October 6, 2016 meeting were approved with changes. Motion to approve the minutes: Commissioner Moyer motioned and Commissioner Alvarez seconded and all are in favor. HERE FROM THE AUDIENCE: None ART IN THE PARK – Planning for 2017 Chairman Laughlin, Commissioner Loftus and Liaison Perley met and reviewed the contract to give to Amdur Productions and are now waiting on the signature copy. There will be a booth for the Northbrook Artists and all the Vendors and Sponsorships will be run past the commission. LOCAL ARTIST STUDIO TOUR: This event is scheduled for this Saturday, November 5, 2016 between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.. Chardrika Marla has been working very diligently on this and has made some posters that she has put up around town and she has had some postcards made. Chairman Laughlin has mailed some to the Northbrook Artists and copies were also given to the Artists participating in the Studio Tour. All Artists were encouraged to send out postcards to their fan base and Chairman Laughlin sent out an email blast to the Artists on the commissions’ mailing list. Chairman Laughlin will finish the maps and get them out to the commissioners and to the Library. The map is also available on the website. There are five locations total. Four are homes and the other Artists will be located at the Leisure Center. DISCUSSION OF FINANCES Chairman Laughlin reported at the end of September the Friends of the Arts had $11, 606.00. ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE Commissioner Moyer thanked Commissioner Block for his work for the Artists in Residence program at the Northbrook Public Library which started November 2, 2016. He has put a lot of hours in to make sure the program goes well. The Art is hung and the Bios are done. Commissioner Block requests he be reimbursed for the materials (business cards) he used for the information for the Art. The Village of Northbrook is subject to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. MOTION: Commissioner Alvarez motioned to allocate $50.00 for reimbursement to Commissioner Block for his expense of the business cards for Artists in Residence program. Commissioner Moyer seconded, all are in favor and Motion passed. Commissioner Block abstained. ARTICULIT PERFORMANCE: Commissioner Gianni announced that the date from January 15th to January 8th or January 22nd of 2017. The commission will discuss and contact Reva at the Northbrook Public Library with the date chosen. NEW BUSINESS – Commissioner Steve Gianni has retired from the Northbrook Public Library and will step down for his successor to be named and attend the meetings. OLD BUSINESS – None ANNOUNCEMENTS –Christopher Laughlin will hold a recital on Friday, December 9th, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Brook Church. This will be a fundraiser and all proceeds will go to the Friends of the Arts. Tickets are available on line and donations are $15.00 for adults and $8.00 for children/students. Commissioner Moyer has volunteered to be an usher for the event. Hope all can attend and bring friends to the recital. Janet Cordovi will be displaying pottery in January/February at the Northbrook Public Library on the 2nd floor.
