MINUTES NORTHBROOK ARTS COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK April 6, 2017 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Christopher Laughlin at 6:06 p.m. at the Northbrook Public Library Interactive Classroom. Commissioners Present: Jerry Block, Susan Wolf, Sharon Moyer, Bruce Bondy, Sheila Day, Eileen Loftus Commissioners Absent: Marsha Schwartz, Al Alvarez Guests in Attendance: Janet Cordovi, Sandy Kaminsky, Rob Sills Minutes: Commissioner Moyer motioned to approve the minutes from the November 3, 2016 and December 1, 2016 meetings. Commissioner Loftus seconded. Upon a voice vote, all were in favor. Hear from the Audience: No comments made. Discussion of Finances: Chairman Laughlin presented the Arts Commission’s budget. He explained both the revenues and expenses of the Spring Artist workshops. He anticipates the event to break even if not make a profit. Chairman Laughlin also covered upcoming expenses. The approximate standing of the account is $14,000. 00. Proposal of Plein Air Festival: Commissioner Bondy explained what a Plein Air festival entails. Chairman Laughlin discussed the timeframe of the festival, possibly hosting the event the third weekend in September (22-24th). Art would be displayed in the Park District’s Tile Room. Chairman Laughlin has already identified a vendor who rents temporary wall panels. Commissioner Bondy expressed his desire to see 20-30 artists participate in the event the first year, allowing no more than 50. It was suggested that a small group committee be created to better determine the logistics and budget of the event. It was also recommended that Emma Perley inquire as to the Village’s stance on hosting an event during high holy days, rash hosanna. Discussion of Piano Fundraising Concert: Commissioner Day made a motion for Chairman Laughlin to proceed with the preliminary planning of a piano fundraising concert, played by Mark Damisch. Commissioner Loftus seconded. Upon a voice vote, all were in favor. Updates on any Ongoing Projects: Tabled until the next meeting. Spring Artist Workshops Discussed above Rock the Green No new updates New Business: None Presented. Old Business: None Presented. Announcements: The Artists in Residence program is starting up, and will be displayed again in July and August. Adjourn: Commissioner Block moved to adjourn the meeting, and Commissioner Loftus seconded. Upon a voice vote, all were in favor.
