APPROVED MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE BICYCLE TASK FORCE Northbrook Village Hall – Terrace Conference Room May 9, 2012 Members Present: Doug Gerleman, Angus Duthie, Mardi Scott, Dan Pepoon, and Jim O’Connell Members Absent: Bob Jaeger, Bob Israel, George Garner Jr., and Chris Henning Staff Present: Jim Baxa and Jennifer Rooks-Lopez Staff Absent: Terry Ryan Others Present: None Call Meeting to Order. Chairman Gerleman called the meeting to order in the Terrace Conference Room of the Village Hall at 7:08 p.m. Review March 14, 2012, Minutes. It was moved and seconded that March 14, 2012, minutes be approved upon minor corrections. The motion was approved. Public Comments – Hear from Audience. No one was in attendance. Skokie Valley Trail Update – Memo to Village Board: Staff discussed the events from the April 24th Board meeting regarding the request to examine an alternate route for the proposed Skokie Valley Trail. The Village Board gave the direction to move forward to work with ComEd and inquire on the potential of relocating a major portion of the Skokie Valley Trail on ComEd Property in lieu of Union Pacific. Shared Lane Marking (Sharrows): Staff shared with the committee the goal is to have 10-12 sharrows replaced at various locations throughout the Village where deteriorating sharrows are present. Staff asked committee members to forward locations of replacement during their bike rides. If the replacement program is successful, staff will request that Public Works crews set a goal of replacing 24 sharrow markings in 2013. Bicycle Safety Training at Northbrook School and Bike to Work Week: Bicycle Task Force discussed the upcoming Bicycle Safety Training event scheduled to be held at Greenbriar and Westmoor schools. Local media involvement was discussed to see if either the Tribune Local or Northbrook Patch could be on hand to document the event for future promotion. Jim O’Connell and Doug Gerleman will volunteer with assisting Active Transportation Alliance promote Bike to Work Week at the METRA station. New Business: Committee member Mardi Scott mentioned the difficulties of locating the Bicycle Task Force webpage on the Village’s website in addition to having supplementary information available on May 9, 2012 BTF Meeting Minutes - APPROVED the webpage to include; bike friendly routes, bike safety rules, and rules of the road. Mardi even suggested including a QR Code for our website on our Bicycle Map information available. Review Bike Task Force Work Plan: After a review of the Core Work Program, no changes were made by the Committee. Set Topics for Next Meeting: The Task Force did not identify any additional topics.
