Community Relations Commission: Youth Forum Subcommittee September 25, 2013 Terrace Room, 7:00pm The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. in the Terrace Room at the Northbrook Village Hall by Community Relations Commission chair Ray Wehr. CRC Members present: Bruce Doughty. Also present: Joy Start, David Whitlock, Nancy Vaccaro, Sari Glazebrook, Shannon LeMaster-Smith and Staff Liaison Kendal Maltas. Welcome: Chair Wehr welcomed everyone to the meeting. Hear from the Audience: No Report Discussion/Review:  Logo o David Whitlock noted that the Youth Commission recommended:  exploring ways to work with the Glenbrook North High School (GBN) graphic design department  opening up the design to the community  working with the Chamber of Commerce  Website o The subcommittee reviewed the draft website, www.northbrookcares.com o Chair Wehr noted that on October 3, the subcommittee was invited to present the website to the GBN Student Advisory Board  Chair Wehr, Nancy Vaccaro, David Whitlock and Kendal Maltas will attend  Looking for suggestions/advice on:  Layout  Ease of use  Information—is anything missing?  Is this a website students would visit? o Once finalized/approved, all agencies represented in the subcommittee should provide a link to the site  The Schools should also be contacted regarding adding a link to the website onto their own sites  Mission Statement o The subcommittee read through the draft mission statements prepared by Chair Wehr and Sari Glazebrook o With some minor modifications, the following was approved by the subcommittee: Northbrook Cares is a Village-wide initiative designed to identify and connect our youth and families facing crisis with local support resources. Our goal is to link people to the best available service organizations for their needs. o Chair Wehr brought up the “Glenview Northbrook Youth Coalition” Page 1 of 2 o This was a group which was mentioned to Chair Wehr by the High School as it sounded similar to the mission of Northbrook Cares o Chair Wehr will be reaching out to the coordinator of the Coalition to find out more information  What is the mission/objectives of the Coalition?  Are there areas where we could partner?  Publicity o At the last subcommittee meeting, members discussed launching the website at the last GBN home football game on October 18  Depending on what input is received at the Student Advisory Board on October 3, it may be too quick of a turn-around to have the website ready for October 18 o Joy Stuart noted that she had reached out to NorthShore Graphics and Marketing Solutions regarding some marketing/publicity items  Bracelets (with website)  Printing/flyers Next Steps:  Bruce Doughty mentioned that the committee’s next steps should be: o Presenting the website to the Student Advisory Board and making the necessary adjustments o Reaching out to the Glenview Northbrook Youth Coalition to find out more information about their purpose and determining whether or not Northbrook Cares should propose combining forces  In regards to the second point, Shannon LeMaster-Smith noted that we could share approaches and resources, but perhaps keep our separate names  When the website is ready to launch, a press release will need to be drafted and promoted by each of the agencies represented on the subcommittee o Schools, Houses of Worship and the Service Agencies should also be provided with the information  In an upcoming meeting, the subcommittee will need to discuss budget o What does the subcommittee need to budget for? o Should each agency on the subcommittee make a contribution?  Chair Wehr summarized the subcommittee’s next steps: o Presentation on October 3 o Clarification from Glenview Northbrook Youth Coalition o Determination on October 18 launch  Flyers  Promotional Items  Service Agency attendance  The next subcommittee meeting will be on Thursday, October 3 at 6:30pm prior to the Community Relations Commission meeting.
