1 Minutes of a Meeting of the 2 Northbrook Community Relations Commission 3 Interfaith Sunday Subcommittee 4 Thursday, March 12, 2015 5 6 Present: Chair Chris Kosla, Subcommittee Members Mary Hansen, Alice Lonoff, Bob 7 Lozaro, Ron Mantegna, and Dr. Rochelle Singer 8 9 Guests: None 10 11 Call to Order / Purpose of Meeting 12 Chairman Kosla called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. in Room 204 of the Northbrook Public Library. 13 No outside person was in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to continue planning for the April 14 19th Interfaith Sunday which is an event jointly sponsored by CRC and the NB Clergy Association. 15 Chairman Kosla handed out a spread sheet of status of commitment by Houses of Worship. 16 17 Stamps 18 Chelle has acquired self-inking stamps for the Passports from Oriental Trading. ~$14.00 19 Update on Flyer. Chris showed us the updated Flyer. After minor edits, it was approved by all. 20 Village Hall will run off 75 letter-size and 6 larger ones (11x17). Chris will arrange to have a flyer posted 21 at the library. 22 23 Participating Houses 24 We reviewed Chris’ updated list of confirmed participants, and divided up the balance for us to call to 25 get a definite Yes or No. 26 Set up for Board Room. We discussed the way to set up the Board Room – tables for pizzas, water 27 bottles, and seats for those needing seating. 28 29 Food / Utensils 30 Bob reported on pizza prices; we concluded Sarpinos had the best prices. Bob will order 10 x-large 31 cheese and 7 x-large sausage pizzas (which will total 136 slices) and arrange for delivery to Village Hall. 32 Any extra slices will be donated to the fire department. We concluded the plates / napkins /forks can be 33 found available in storage. Sunset has offered to provide a large fruit tray / water bottles. We noted 34 that the Village has directed commissions not to accept donations from local businesses. 35 36 Shirts 37 Chris showed photos of different shirts. The majority agreed on the dark blue background, and none of 38 the others objected. Bob Lozaro will get a large green one. Price $6 / shirt. We will order: 25 small; 40 39 medium; 100 large; and 35 extra-large. Bob’s green one will be large. 40 41 Large Banners 42 Michael Strong found the 3 large banners that say Interfaith Open Houses will be “Next Sunday”. We 43 agreed no need to put date on the banners; we’ll just put up the banners on Sunday the 12th or Monday 44 the 13th. The placement will be at: (1) Village Presbyterian, (2) Triangle by train station, and (3) 45 Northbrook United Methodist Church (corner of Cherry and Western). Village staff will install the 46 banners when they are ready. 47 Community Relations Commission Interfaith Sunday Subcommittee Meeting Minutes March 12, 2015 48 Kick-off Event at St. Giles 49 Chris will check out the venue to confirm there will be a piano, and to find out if it has a PA system. He 50 will also find out when we can have access for setting up. We will need tables for the T-Shirts and some 51 chairs for those who cannot stand. Order of Events: 52 53 (1) As people enter they are given Passports (which will have words to the songs) and they are told 54 that T-shirts are given out at the end – can be picked up as people exit. 55 (2) Chris will make brief remarks, and then will introduce Pastor Melissa Earley who will lead us in 56 prayer – and then 57 (3) We all sing America the Beautiful. Chris then introduces Ray Wehr. 58 (4) Ray speaks and then introduces Village President, Sandy Frum. 59 (5) Sandy Frum speaks, and then Alice (?) introduces musicians and explains again that t-shirts 60 available after end of music. Two songs were chosen (based on “peace” theme): “If I had a 61 Hammer”; and “Let There be Peace on Earth”. 62 So far we have two musicians from Northbrook United Methodist Church: Deacon Shannon 63 LeMaster-Smith on guitar, and Bob Yee on piano. If any other Houses also wish to participate in 64 the music, they can provide singers to help lead in song, and/or musicians to help lead the 65 music. The songs are intended to be sung by all present. Alice noted that Pastor Melissa Earley 66 was told that Village Presbyterian was interested in “providing music” for the kick-off. 67 (6) At end of songs someone (Chris? Melissa? Ray?) closes and directs people toward the T-shirt 68 Tables near exits. We will have signs for sizes of T-Shirts. 69 70 Trivia 71 Bob Lozaro provided additional trivia questions that he and Mary Hansen have composed. Ron 72 Mantegna will be in charge of the trivia contest / prizes at the closing event at Village Hall. 73 74 T-Shirts to Houses of Worship 75 We will need to find out from the participating Houses how many hosts will be at each House of 76 Worship, and their t-shirt size, so we can deliver the appropriate t-shirts, in the right size, to each House. 77 We will also be delivering Passports and stamps. At the next meeting we will divide up responsibility for 78 these deliveries. 79 80 Passports 81 They can be printed up very quickly. We will wait until we know which Houses of Worship are confirmed 82 to participate. We will have Passports at the Kick-off and at each House of Worship. 83 84 Next Meeting 85 Chris will call us together for one final meeting close to the event to go over final details. 86 87 The meeting concluded at 8:50 pm. 88 89 Respectfully submitted, 90 91 Alice Lonoff 2
