1 Minutes of a Meeting of the 2 Northbrook Community Relations Commission 3 Asian American Heritage Subcommittee 4 Tuesday, April 7, 2015 5 6 7 Present: Chair Ray Wehr, Subcommittee Members James Hyun, Jasmine 8 Lee, Bob Lozaro, Dan Moy, Howard Schultz, and Misty Vinson- 9 Spitzer 10 11 Guests: None. 12 13 Absent: Reemlee Chowdhury 14 15 Others: Cathie Winnie, Staff Liaison Mike Strong 16 17 Call to Order & Welcome 18 Chair Ray Wehr called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of the 19 North Suburban YMCA at 2705 Techny Road in Northbrook. 20 21 Hear from the Audience 22 None. 23 24 Update on Entertainment for 2015 Event 25 Member Jasmine Lee gave an oral report concerning the entertainment acts who have 26 confirmed participation in the 2015 event. 27 28 Member Lee stated she is still waiting to receive confirmation from a Filipino dance 29 group, and hopes to hear later this week. 30 31 General discussion took place concerning the confirmed artists, and if there would need 32 to be additional acts to fill the event timeframe. Additional discussion took place 33 concerning the order of the acts and how to the entertainment portion should be 34 scheduled. Member Jasmine Lee stated she would reach out to the acts to see if they had 35 preference on the order. 36 37 The subcommittee agreed that the total budget should not exceed $1,000, based on a 38 motion made by Member Hyun, seconded by Member Lee. The motion passed 39 unanimously. 40 41 Update on Artisan Vendors and Children’s Activities for Event 42 Cathie Winnie provided an update on the arts and crafts activities for children in the ABC 43 Room. She stated that lanterns will adorn the hallways, and that the children will be 44 decorating white kites to display in various areas of the facility. 45 Minutes of a Meeting of the Asian American Heritage Subcommittee April 7, 2015 46 Member James Hyun stated he has lined up calligraphy for the event and will be working 47 on organizing supplies. 48 49 Staff Liaison Strong stated that he was in talks with the Sumi-E Midwest organization to 50 organize a display at Village Hall during the Village Board meetings in April. 51 52 Food Updates 53 Member Lozaro stated that Pavilion and Golden Chef are confirmed and ready to go for 54 the event. 55 56 Member Hyun stated that he has ordered food from Dundee Market and Uni-Mart for the 57 event. 58 59 Update on Promotion and Marketing 60 Staff Liaison Strong gave an update on the status of the flyer and press release. General 61 discussion took place concerning the press release. 62 63 Member Vinson-Spitzer stated that the YMCA has the banners, and that they will be 64 displayed after the Interfaith event in the Triangle and United Methodist Church. 65 66 Member Moy stated that he will solicit donations for fortune cookies to see if they can be 67 used to help promote the event as well. 68 69 Old Business 70 None. 71 72 New Business 73 None. 74 75 Scheduling of Next Meeting 76 Chair Ray Wehr stated that the next meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 14, at 5:00 77 p.m. at the North Suburban YMCA. 78 79 Adjournment 80 A motion was made by James Hyun, seconded by Bob Lozaro, to adjourn the meeting at 81 6:30 p.m. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. 82 83 Respectfully submitted, 84 85 Michael Strong 86 Staff Liaison 2
