APPROVED MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE ELECTRICAL COMMISSION VILLAGE OF NORTHBROOK COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS SEPTEMBER 18, 2014 Commissioners Present (6) Rick Jamerson, Chairman Robert Boiko, Commissioner Kevin Frangiamore, Director, Fire Prevention Bureau, Village of Northbrook Mark Nolan, Fire Chief, Village of Northbrook Dennis Lauer, Commissioner Bernard Petchenik, Commissioner Village Staff Present (2) Corey Friedman, Electrical Inspector Denise Kauffman, Recorder 1. Call to Order Chairman Jamerson called the meeting to order in the Terrace Room of Village Hall, 1225 Cedar Lane, at 5:37 pm. 2. Review of Minutes for January 8, 2014 Meeting Review of the minutes held on January 8, 2014 included these corrections: On page 3, line 22, Chief Nolan’s name was misspelled and needs to be corrected from “Dolan” to “Nolan.” On page 3, line 22, the motion was made by Chief Nolan and seconded by Member Boiko. On page 1, line 25, the title should read Chief Electrical Inspector, City of Chicago, Retired. Chief Nolan motioned, and seconded by Commissioner Petchenik to approve the minutes of the January 8, 2014 Electrical Commission as amended with the above corrections. On a voice vote, the motion was unanimously carried. 3. Hear from the Audience There was no audience present and no comment. 4. New Business Corey Friedman gave an update of electrical inspections for this year. The update included that the number of electrical inspections doubled this year between May and September over last year. He reported that they are still working on an electrical plan for the carnival and this year there was progress and the electrical situation at the carnival has improved. He noted that the cables across the ground are still bad and of concern, but there was an overall improvement at the carnival. Corey Friedman also gave a review using photos of recent electrical code violations. There was discussion about each of the photos and the violation displayed. Chief Nolan suggested sending copies of the photos to local apprentice programs and electrical schools in the county and ask the students to identify the errors as a learning lesson for them. Commissioner Petchenik inquired about the outcome of previously discussed project using MC cable. There was a review and discussion of electrical work using MC cabling. There was discussion and review of current projects in the Village. Commissioner Boiko discussed aluminum wire. He presented information on independent testing done by an engineer. Commissioner Boiko also announced his appointment to the National Board of ASME and he is a member of the task force for pressures relieve valves and devices committee for ASME. The purpose is to work on making codes safer on the national level. Chairman Jamerson announced that there are free passes available for the September 28 National Trade Show for Electrical Inspectors in Chicago. There will be new products displayed at the Trade Show. Commissioner Lauer asked for an update on Federal Pacific breakers. Corey Friedman said that there has been no recall and there was discussion of the class action case in New Jersey. 5. Old Business There was no old business. 6. Adjourn There being no further business, Commissioner Petchenik motioned, seconded by Commissioner Boiko, to adjourn the meeting.
