January 16, 2025 Meeting Minutes
In attendance:
Matt Marion (Chairman)
Craig Jung (Commissioner)
John deRegt (Commissioner)
Wim Jessup (Commissioner)
and
Garth Griffiths (Harbor Superintendent)
The Five Mile River Commission commenced its regularly scheduled meeting at the
Rowayton Community Center at 6:00 p.m.
Chairman Marion requested a vote from the Commissioners to ratify the Commission’s
prior online approvals of its July 11, 2024, September 12, 2024, and October 17, 2024
meeting minutes, its recent advisory comments regarding the dredging project at 135 Five
Mile River Road, and the conditions it is setting for the applicant with respect to the
bulkhead replacement at 97 Rowayton Avenue. Commissioner Jessup so moved,
Commissioner Jung seconded, and the Commissioners unanimously approved the minutes
and advisory comments/conditions.
Next, the Commissioners discussed the FY 2024 results, which included a $6,000
adjustment resulting from a commercial check that the City had not deposited in the
Commission’s account. The check has been reissued and is being hand-delivered to the
City. In addition, the Commission discussed two competing bids for ‘No Wake’ signage at
the harbor mouth, and, after expressing their gratitude to both vendors, unanimously
approved the bid submitted by G & C Marine Services.
The Commission then noted/discussed the following items in Harbor Superintendent
Griffiths’ January 2025 report: (i) the inclusion of several new mooring applicants in the
mooring field; (ii) his meeting with Edwards Marine regarding planned work in the Five
Mile River for 2025; (iii) the discontinuation of the kayak trail versus the cost of upgrading
it as needed; (iv) the timing for a planned drone survey of the mooring field; (v) 2025
mooring and slip applications; and (vi) the benefit of marketing available moorings in
2025.
With no further business, the Commission adjourned its meeting at 7:00. The
Commission’s next scheduled meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2025,
commencing at 6:00 p.m. at Rowayton Community Center, 33 Highland Avenue, Norwalk,
Ct.
Respectively submitted,
Five Mile River Commission
