City of Pekin Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes May 12, 2016; 4:00 pm Attending: Committee members - Roy Davis, Perry Martin & Ray Gordon City of Pekin staff – Brett Olson, Mike Guerra, Ty Whitford & Pamela Anderson Other guests – Joe Alexander (CityLink) and Nick Maggioncalda (Tazewell County Health Department) Next meeting: July 14, 2016 Page 1 City of Pekin Mayor’s Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities Minutes May 12, 2016; 4:00 pm I. Welcome and introductions II. Approval of minutes (no quorum) A. 2014 - September B. 2015 – February, June and August C. 2016 – January, March III. Old business A. Wellness Day at Pekin Community High School – 6th annual event for this City of Pekin Committee; along with several other local/regional organizations, to share disability awareness with almost 1,400 Pekin Community High School students; Life Goes On was our theme again this year; special thank you to Committee member P. Martin for coordinating with Brendan Quinn from Bloomington to attend/participate with us at this event. Committee members participating – Libby Holbrook, Leia Stewart and Perry Martin – thank you! B. Bridges out of Poverty – 28 attendees at the April 25th Day 1 workshop; future meeting – ism’s video repeat C. City of Pekin ADA Transition plan – Mike Guerra & Brett Olson provided information to this point and moving forward D. CityLink follow up needed; P. Anderson will attend Traffic Safety Committee to discuss signage and enforcement efforts for no turn on red for 14th and Broadway intersection IV. New business A. Correspondence / around the table / public comments A. N. Maggioncalda from the Tazewell County Health Department shared with the group that May is Functional needs disability month. During the month of May the Illinois Department of Public Health will observe functional needs preparedness. The Office of Preparedness and Response (OPR) is committed to providing preparedness awareness to IDPH employees, all of their partners, and the public. Being prepared for disasters and emergencies is vital for all individuals, but it is event more critical for people with functional needs. Support health and safety for yourself and others by following the emergency preparedness recommendations in the presentation from OPR. His e-mail will be forwarded to group. VI.
