Minutes of Quarterly Meeting
Wednesday, January 20, 2021 1:00 p.m.

Present: Dave Sherrick – Commission Chairman
Brian Schurter – Commission Member

Chief Tony Brown – Rantoul Police Department
Deputy Chief Rodney Sullivan – Rantoul Police Department

1. Chairman Sherrick called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m.
2. Approve Minutes
a. Commissioner Schurter made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular meeting
held Wednesday, October 21, 2020. Chairman Sherrick seconded the motion. The
Board voted unanimously to approve the minutes as written.
3. Public Comments
a. No public comments.
4. Old Business
a. Chairman Sherrick inquired about the continuous testing process that has gone into
effect since the last meeting. Chief Brown responded that he was pleased to see, even
with minimal advertisement, there was a considerably diverse group of approximately
25 that applied to test. There have been a few from the department that have reached
out and referred interested candidates. Deputy Chief Sullivan added that he has
reached out by email to those that have shown interest through the village website to
keep them informed of test dates. They both agreed that the process is off to a good
start.
5. New Business
a. Chairman Sherrick motioned to approve the FY21-22 budget. Commissioner Schurter
seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously to approve the FY21-22 budget.
b. Regarding the process of when applicants fail to show up to the test, Chief Brown
suggested having them wait 1 year until testing again. Deputy Chief Sullivan also
suggested that those who fail the test wait 1 year as well. Chairman Sherrick agreed
that all applicants, including those that fail to show up without prior notice, must wait 1
year from testing date to test again. Chief Brown advised that the Fire & Police
Commission rules & regulations would need to be changed. Commissioner Schurter
proposed that the amendment be presented for approval at the next meeting.

c. In regards to the new applicant oral interviews, Chief Brown stated that he would like to
start by the beginning of February in hopes to hire by March or April. Chairman
Sherrick set the date of interviews for February 8, 2021 starting at 8:30 a.m.
6. Other Business
a. The next quarterly meeting of the Rantoul Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is
scheduled for Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. in the conference room of the
Rantoul Police Department.
7. Adjournment
a. A motion was made by Chairman Sherrick to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner
Schurter seconded the motion. The Board voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at
1:21 p.m.
