Skokie Board of Health Thursday, May 13, 2021, 7:00 pm Virtual via Zoom Meeting MEETING MINUTES In Attendance: Chair Dr. William Werner, Ms. Juliet Haido, Ms. Maureen Hanlon, Dr. Edward Linn, Dr. Kyrungran Shim, Dr. Romil Sood, Ms. Patricia Urbanus, Ms. Ruth Varma, Dr. Michael Vernon, Ms. Sibyl Yau, Mike Charley, Staff Liaison Excused: Mr. Rohit Pandya Absent: Dr. Swapna Dave, Dr. Bruce Gaynes, Ms. Margaret Keeler, Dr. Girija Kalyan Kumar, Ms. Ashley Moy-Wooten, Ms. Heidi Nickisch Duggan, Mr. Irtaza Usman, Dr. Larry Williams Jr., I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. A required statement was read by Chairman Dr. Werner to open the meeting. II. Approval of Agenda: Agenda Approved III. Approval of Minutes: Minutes Approved IV. Chair’s Report, Dr. Werner A. Dr. Werner communicated that Tuesday night PBS started a series called “Extra Life – A Short History of Living Longer”. The first episode was on the history of vaccination, Dr. Werner recommended BOH members view the first episode. B. Dr. Werner stated there is a webinar on the National Academy Website called “Learning to Live with COVID-19” – What living with endemic COVID-19 might look like. He recommended this also. V. Director’s Monthly Report, Mike Charley A. Mr. Charley reported updates on COVID 19 Cases and the COVID-19 Vaccination campaign. B. Mr. Charley shared a presentation on Lead in Skokie Drinking Water and the Skokie Water Quality Report. Maureen Hanlon asked what the cost to the homeowner is to replace the lead service lines. Mr. Charley responded that he would follow-up with Public Works and then provide this information to Ms. Hanlon. VI. Old/New Items of Business A. Skokie Police Department: National Bike Safety Month Event 5/23/21 @ Oakton Park. Mr. Charley presented information on the event. Two BOH commissioners Dr. Ed Linn and Ms. Maureen Hanlon committed to volunteer at the event on behalf of the Board of Health. B. Banning of E-Cigarette and/or Flavored Tobacco Products Ordinance Update: Mr. Charley and Dr. Werner provided a few updates including that the Board of Health recommendation may be heard by the Village Board as a first reading as soon as a May Village Board meeting. There was some discussion to confirm whether the Board of Health recommended prohibiting the sale of vaping products and tobacco products. After discussion, a motion was made by Ms. Patricia Urbanas and seconded by Dr. Ed Linn to recommend to the Village Board to ban the sale of flavored tobacco products and flavored e-cigarette products. The Board of Health members voted unanimously to pass the motion. VII. Public Comments: There were no public comments. VIII.
