Media Literacy Education
George, Anil, Pouriya and Joanne attended the Media Literacy presentation at the library on
July 12. Rebroadcast of 1 ½ hour “Trust Me” with the impact producer and Renee Hobbs,
Julie Coiro and Troy Hicks from Media Education Lab (an organization working to improve
media literacy education) attended virtually as an information panel. Michael Spikes from
Northwestern University and Mariah Cherem from the Skokie Library attended in person.
Mariah has informed the CAC that they are possibly going to make the recording available.
Both George and Anil commented on how informative it was. This was sponsored by the
Consumer Affairs Commission.
The piece of the project still to be worked on is a possible website containing information on
who and how to contact to verify the veracity of what you are seeing/hearing. Michael Spikes
has agreed to help with this.
Miscellaneous
George brought up the question of whether Skokie has an involvement if two gas stations
(same brand) display different prices.
Trustee Kheoun gave us information on the Sustainable Environmental Survey for Skokie
residence. Deadline July 31.
Next meeting is August 10.
Meeting adjourned at 7:26
