SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2021
PRESENT: Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Director of Marketing and
Communications Ann Tennes, Deputy Fire Chief Kathy Furgala, Director of Engineering Erik Cook, Police Chief
Brian Baker, Alicia Case, David Freireich, Linda Perlin, Bryant Smith, Dennis Rizo, Julian Levy, Frank Ippolito,
Joel Reyes, Howard Rosenburg, Connell Collins, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Melissa Villegas.
EXCUSED: Vice Chair Mark Penning, Trustee Ilonka Ulrich, Director of Public Works Max Slankard, Transportation Engineer

CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
After the awards ceremony, Chairperson Paul Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the December 15th
meeting were approved.
POLICE USE OF FORCE DISCUSSION AND QUESTIONS
A discussion was led by representatives of various groups.
What specific changes can be made to strengthen the Skokie Police Department Use of Force Policy, and how do you believe
those changes will impact the safety of the police, the public, and the subject of the potential use of force?
What do you think police can do to reduce the likelihood of use of force?
What do you think the public can do to reduce the likelihood of use of force?
The Commission and guests discussed the following questions for the meeting:

AGENDA
Until further notice, meetings of the Skokie Public Safety Commission will be held
electronically, with a majority of Village officials participating via remote access in order to
comply with the State of Illinois Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation. Members of the
public who wish to comment as to an item on the published agenda or to comment during
public comments must submit their statement or question in writing to the Village
Manager’s Office and all properly submitted statements or questions will be presented and
read during the relevant portion of the meeting. Written comments may be submitted by
email to citizencomments@skokie.org by mail to Village of Skokie, Village Manager's
Office, 5127 Oakton Street, Skokie, Illinois, 60077; or via the Village’s drop box located by
the public entry to Village Hall.
