SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 2021 PRESENT: Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, Director of Marketing and Communications Ann Tennes, Police Chief Brian Baker, Transportation Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Alicia Case, David Freireich, Dennis Rizo, Howard Rosenburg, Cornell Collins, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Melissa Villegas, Frank Ippolito, Edward McCarthy, Alex Chaparro, Julian Levy, Karen Lise Sherman, Marcie Claus, Fire Deputy Chief of Operations Nicholas C. Eschner. Kenneth Mantel, Linda Perlin, Director of Public Works Max Slankard EXCUSED: Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Paul Kruszynski, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Amy L. Memis-Foler, Joel Reyes, ABSENT: Daniel Fink, Jr., Earl Nicholas, Mitchell Kushner, Bryant Smith. CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Paul Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The minutes of the May 19th meeting were approved. Members of the Human Relations Commission were also attending the meeting. POLICE USE OF FORCE DISCUSSION AND NEXT STEPS A discussion was led by Ann Tennes to review and discuss the public comments received regarding the draft recommendation to the Village Board on the Skokie Police Department Use of Force. Final thoughts and comments were discussed by the commission. Also discussed was the total number of members that should make-up the community review board. Seven members for the review board was agreed upon with two members to be from the public safety commission and one member to be from the human relations commission. Final edits to the draft will be worked on by Ann Tennes and then sent to the smaller working group that helped develop the draft. The final recommendation will be presented to the Board at the July 6th board meeting. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS None. ADJOURNMENT At 8:24 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
