SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2023 PRESENT: Cornell Collins, Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner, Scott Ford, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Mitchell Kushner Ibrahim Mansuri, Linda Perlin, Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Dennis Rizo, Nicholas Vickers, Melissa Villegas, Jeff Schvimer, Deputy Chief Jesse Barnes EXCUSED: Police Chief Brian Baker, Deputy Chief Stephen Jagman, Kenneth Mantel , Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian Vice Chair Mark Penning, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Howard Rosenburg, Director of Public Works Max Slankard Bryant Smith, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker ABSENT: Marcie Claus, Paul Kruszynski CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The minutes of the January 18th meeting were approved. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Barnes gave the Police Department Report. The comparative summary was provided for the month. He also gave an overview of recent pedestrian traffic accidents. He provided information about the ride along program and citizen’s Police Academy. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Eschner gave the Fire Department Report. Calls received in January were down, but there was a big fire in the 8300 block of Kilpatrick that started from a Christmas tree. In addition, there have been numerous plan reviews completed and training is going well. Unfortunately Firefighter Andrew Cutting recently lost his battle with cancer and passed away. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld gave the Engineering Report. Russ reviewed current and upcoming bicycle related projects on the horizon. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS The no left turn sign near Oakton and Kostner was reinstalled by CCDOTH. NEW BUSINESS We reviewed the proposed promotional piece regarding pedestrian safety and determined a plan of action for distribution. ADJOURNMENT At 8:09 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
