SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20,2023 PRESENT: Police Chief Brian Baker, Connell Collins, Deputy Chief Nicholas Eschner, Paul Kmszynski, Mitchell S. Kushner, Kimani Levy, Ibriham Mansuri, Fred Moore, Vice Chair Mark Penning, Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Trustee Aiison Pure-Slovin, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Dennis Rizo, Doug Rocklin, Howard Rosenberg, Melissa Vitlegas EXCUSED: Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Deputy Fire Chief Stephen Jagman, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Linda Perlin, Jeffrey Schvimer, Public Works Director Max Slankard, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker ABSENT: Marcie Claus, Scott Ford, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Bryant Smith, Nicholas Vickers CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. The minutes of the June 21st meeting were approved. Everyone introduced themselves for the benefit of the new commissioner. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Chief Baker gave the Police Department Report and presented on the Community Emergency Services and Support Act. Car thefts are still up. Service calls are back to prepandemic levels. QA discussion followed. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Deputy Chief Eschner gave the Fire Department Report. August was another very busy month. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Russ Rietveld gave the Engineering Report. QA discussion followed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Russ Rietveld provided feedback regarding the RRFB and Howard, Lincoln and Skokie Blvd intersection concerns raised in June. Engineering will review accident data for the Howard and Lincoln and Howard and Skokie Blvd intersections. NEW BUSINESS It was requested that we provide public education on how drivers can safely and legally obey regulations related to school buses. On behalf of the Commission, Engineering will work with Communications on this. ADJOURNMENT At 8:37 p.m. a motion was made to adjourn which was seconded and then passed unanimously.
