SKOKIE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2024 PRESENT: Police Chief Jesse Bames, Connell Collins, Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner, Scott Ford, Fire Chief Jeff Hoeflich, Avron Kahn, Paul Kruszynski, Mitchell Kushner, Kimani Levy, Chairperson Paul Pitalis, Leslie Post-Weissinger, Dennis Rizo, Howard Rusenburg, Transportation Engineer Erik Sanchez, Bryant Smith, and Vice Chairperson Melissa Villegas EXCUSED: Marcie CIaus, Senior Engineer Samantha Maximilian, Deputy Fke Chief Stephen Jagman, Ibriham Mansuri, Fred Moore, Mark Penning, Linda Perlin, Trustee Alison Pure-Slovin, Director of Engineering Russ Rietveld, Doug Rocklin, Director of Public Works Max SIankard, Trustee Edie Sue Sutker, and Jeffrey Schvimer ABSENT: None CALL TO ORDER AND APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES Chairperson Pitalis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Quorum was established. The minutes of the May 151il meeting were approved. FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT Fire DC Op Nicholas Eschner presented the challenges of electric vehicle fires and the strategies the Fire Department will use to extinguish EV fires. A video was presented about EV fires and tips to prevent fires. Speciai equipment was purchased by the Skokie Fire Department to help extinguish EV fires and a demonstration was shown of the equipment. Skokie Fire Explorer Car Wash is on June 29. QA discussion followed. POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT Police Chief Jesse Bames presented the Police Department May Report. Police Department is preparing for upcoming events that require high surveillance such as Backlot Bash. QA discussion followed. ENGINEERING REPORT Erik Sanchez presented the Engineering Division Report. Ongoing construction for the Village of Skokie's resurfacing projects. The Sidewalk Program is expected to start soon. The Oakton St, Dempster St, and Old Orchard Rd bridge projects are ongoing. Church Street Bike Lane Project Public Information Meeting is next week June 27. QA discussion followed.
